Mer Soleil is a beautiful Chardonnay produced by Chuck Wagner of Caymus Vineyards and his son Charlie.
Mer Soleil Chardonnay is made in a complex, barrel-fermented style reminiscent of the white wines of Burgundy but with the generous sun-ripened flavors of California. They grow fruit at the Mer Soleil Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlandsn near Monterey on an east-facing lower slope which provides a barrier from the Pacific Ocean. This Chardonnay has Mer Soleil’s signature aromas of tropical fruit and toasted spice.
93 Points Wine Enthusiast: "Year in and year out, Mer Soleil's Chardonnay is one of the biggest, most distinctive ones in California. Â Rich in apricot jam, pineapple custard and new oak butterscotch flavors, but for all the opulence, it's entirely dry, and has zesty Monterey acidity. Almost a food group in itself, it will challenge chefs to rise to the occasion."

New release from the Caymus family! Â Jenny Wagner, daughter of Caymus' Chuck Wagner, has introduced this outstanding Sauvignon Blanc from her new label Emmolo.Â
Continuing the legacy of the Wagner Family's other profound wine ventures such as Caymus, Belle Glos, and Conundrum, Jenny Wagner takes the reins of Emmolo Winery and is making a hit with these new releases! Her family has a long-standing history in Napa Valley beginning with her great-grandfather, Italian immigrant, Salvatore Emmolo, who planted grapevines and started a grapevine rootstock nursery in Rutherford in the 1920’s. His son, and Jenny's grandfather, Frank Emmolo, ran Emmolo Nursery and built a strong following amongst Napa Valley grapegrowers - becoming the leading supplier to Napa Valley vintners for five decades.
Emmolo is an elegant and refined style of Sauvignon Blanc that is subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity. On the nose, aromas of citrus, iron, wet stone and a hint of D’Anjou pear tempt your senses, while a crisp lightness, balanced acidity and underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest please the palate. The significant minerality and soft body rounds out the wine. This Sauvignon Blanc was made to pair with food, yet is very versatile. Bottled using a Guala twist top in lieu of cork.Â

New Pinot Noir from Mer Soleil!
A rich, deep red – the color of Bing cherries – the Mer Soleil 2019 Reserve Pinot Noir wine opens with scents of dark berries, pomace, and the woodiness of a hiking path in a redwood forest. Soft, powdery traces of old-fashioned lipstick add an intriguing element to the nose. Entry is smooth, with bright cherry flavors and a “berry basket” of blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Pomace and brown spice infuse the palate, which is round and coats the mouth. An initial flash of fruit gives way to soft tannins, natural acidity, and an evocative earthy character. The finish is unusually long, with hints of cranberry adding an unexpected note to the mix of this wine’s many layers.
Mer Soleil, meaning "sea and sun," takes its name from our coastal setting, where sunny skies mix with gusting maritime winds. The Reserve Pinot Noir wine is produced from hillside vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, whose dramatic weather provides ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir.

Lustrous light gold, this wine opens with aromas of daffodils, the bisoctti cookie jar in my grandparetns' kitchen, and a lsigh hint of new leather. Soft bubbles fill the mouth upon entry, with an immediate freshness that yields to creaminess from extended aging in tirage. The palate features the mineral character of wt stone and mouthwatering bright citrus flavors. Subtle and alluring on the finish - like catching the scent of your favorite bakery on a breezy, sunny afternoon.

New release from Caymus! Limited.
The Walking Fool is a lush, Zinfandel based blend. A silky scarlet red with luminous highlights, this wine opens with a lean earthiness—the scent of rustic wood mixes with sweet spice, a whiff of cigar box, dusty pavement and old leather, infused with garden ripe strawberries and cherries. The palate is smooth and lively, featuring flavors of juicy raspberry, the subtle tartness of cranberry, and notes of espresso and smoked meat. Underlying acidity makes this wine mouthwatering, while its tannins lend a gritty yet softly fine texture. On the finish: a trace of vibrant cranberry, luxurious cocoa and an extra kick of spice.
Chuck Wagner founded Caymus Vineyards with his parents in 1972 in Rutherford, California, in the center of Napa Valley. Now Caymus is putting down roots in a neighboring wine region called Suisun Valley. Only a 30-minute drive southeast of Napa, Suisun Valley is less well-known than its more famous neighbor, but shares a similar maritime climate and superb soils. Chuck likes to say that Suisun Valley reminds him of Napa Valley in the 1960s – full of open space, small family farms, meandering waterways lined with native oaks, and exceptional vineyards. Known more for its production of stone fruits, Suisun Valley is increasingly being recognized for its wines.

New release of Caymus' under-the-radar Malbec from Argentina. Limited.
Beautiful Argentina is legendary in the production of fine Malbec wine. Inspried to create Red Schooner, Caymus Vineyards designed an efficient method to ship grapes over ocean waters while retaining their precious qualities. The plan was to pinpoint a high-caliber vineyard on the slopes of the Andes Mountains, then harvest and chill the fruit, transporting the valuable cargo by sea voyage to Caymus Vineyards. The fruit arrived in excellent condition, looking as though it had just been harvested. They used great care to extract deep color and rich tannins through a slow and delicate fermentation. The wine was then aged 14 months in French oak barrels (50% new) before bottling.
Tasting Notes: Â AÂ "Caymus style" of Mendoza Malbec. Definitely an iron fist in a velvet glove. Rich fine tannin - a Mendoza dust fine texture. There is a very refined character to this wine, which is special and singular. This wine is unfined and has already thrown a bit of sediment, representing the rich and natural concentration of abundant quality.

New release from Caymus! Limited.
previous vintage 93 Points Wine Spectator:Â "Dark and plush, this combines structure with polish, offering notes of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate, grilled herb and toasty spice that linger toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2030."
Winemaker Chuck Wager: "A velvety purple with ruby-red highlights, the 2018 vintage of Grand Durif features an abundant one of dark plums and baked blueberries, woven with scents of lavender, white rose petals, sweet smoke and brown spice. Entry on the palate is smooth, yielding to a pop of high, luxurious tannins that then sneak back, revealing lush fruit flavors of dark berry cobbler. What gives this wine its singular character are the tannins - strong yet supple, pronounced while being strikingly soft. The finish is long, with warm, evocative notes of unsweetened cocoa. Still quite young, this vintage can be enjoyed now and also has tremendous aging potential."

New release of Caymus' Napa Cabernet now available! Caymus makes one of Napa Valley's most popular Cabernet Sauvignons and the 2020 is another stellar wine.
previous vintage 94 Points Robert Parker: Â "The Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years."
Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a “Napa Valley” and the venerable “Special Selection”. Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time” – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla. The new Caymus 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley release is one of the best cabs in years!

Caymus makes one of Napa Valley's most popular Cabernet Sauvignons and the 2020 is another stellar wine.
previous vintage 96 Points Robert Parker:  "They appear to be immune to some of winedom’s less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time, and the result is a spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary offering. Its dense purple/black color is followed by copious quantities of crème de cassis and blackberry fruit, silky tannins, a voluptuous texture and stunning purity as well as length. This full-bodied effort is a fabulous example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a tribute to this amazing family. It is so good now, why wait? However, I’m sure that like most vintages of Caymus, it will last for 20-25 years. Amazing!
...I am old enough to remember Chuck Wagner and his father, who I first met at Caymus in the late seventies. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one that, amazingly, never went through a bad patch. Obviously, no matter which generation is in the driver’s seat (or should I say tractor’s seat), Caymus Vineyard knows how to deliver flavor and deliciousness."
