One of the best Napa Valley Sauvignon Blancs we've discovered.
The Altamura 2013 Sauvignon Blanc comes from the winery's 4-acre 18-year-old dry-farmed vineyard which sits at an altitude of 850 feet. The wine is fermented and aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months resulting in a wine of great depth and complexity, displaying the flavor and textural profile more like a white Bordeaux than a California Sauvignon Blanc. Very limited production of 500 cases.
Another great new release from Bedrock - limited.
92 Points Robert Parker: "The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc is one of the best I have tasted in California. This is highly extracted Sauvignon, with perhaps the vintage’s low yields and splendid concentration giving it that extra gear. The telltale melons, caramelized grapefruit, fig and more exotic fruits are present in this beautifully fragrant, medium-bodied Sauvignon that has a terrific texture and length. It is dry, but wow, what an intriguing and exotic Sauvignon Blanc. Drink it over the next several years...
...everybody should recognize the incredible speed at which Morgan Twain-Peterson has built his Bedrock Wine Co. into a world-class performer. Moreover, few people have done more to preserve and save heritage/ancient-vine vineyards than Peterson. Here is his new lineup of wines that shows his creative Midas touch for coaxing full character out of his diverse terroirs and blends. His commitment to excellence is something to admire."
A fantastic boutique Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley from our friends at Buoncristiani. Only 325 cases produced.
The Buoncristiani Brothers proudly present the new release of Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Achieving their desired style and profile for their first release was accomplished through careful vineyard and clonal selection, proper maturity at harvest, and very specific handling of the juice on the gentle path towards bottling. Complex aromas of lemon zest, white peach, ripe ruby grapefruit, orange sherbert, floral muscat, vanilla, and lemon cream pie entice the senses. On the palate, a creamy texture leads the way to layered flavors of mango, green melon, nectarine, key lime pie, honeysuckle and vanilla wafer. Zesty citrus flavors, tropical fruit and ultra bright acidity linger in the crisp and clean finish. Highly recommended.
Cakebread Cellars 2015 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a fresh, rich , vivacious white wine with bright grapefruit, lime, melon and hay aromas and concentrated kiwi, citrus and green apple flavors. Its refreshingly flinty, mineral-y finish makes it a mouthwatering aperitif wine as well as a great accompaniment to a wide range of seafood, poulty, vegetarian and salad dishes.
Cakebread harvests their Sauvignon Blanc grapes at night to ensure the freshest, highest-quality juice!
Great opportunity to try one of Napa Valley's limited Sauvignon Blancs from up-and-coming Cliff Lede Vineyards!
The Cliff Lede 2015 Sauvignon Blanc is loaded with aromas of Meyer lemon and candle wax atop layers of honeysuckle, ginger, and tangerine. Spring blossoms of wisteria, lupin, and California buckeye abound in the upper register of the seductive perfume. The full-bodied, coating mouthfeel expands out on the palate with a rich crème brûlée like texture as unctuous notes of bosc pear, orange marmalade, and lavender honey coalesce along the long, satisfying finish.
Proprietor Cliff Lede has put together a top-notch winemaking triumvirate that includes the extraordinary talents of Winemaker Michelle Edwards (formerly of Colgin), Vineyard Manager David Abreu (Harlan, Colgin, Bryant Family Vineyards, and Screaming Eagle), and internationally renowned Winemaking Consultant, Michel Rolland (Harlan, Bon Pasteur), operating in what was formerly the S. Anderson Winery.

New release from the Caymus family! Jenny Wagner, daughter of Caymus' Chuck Wagner, has introduced this outstanding Sauvignon Blanc from her new label Emmolo.
Continuing the legacy of the Wagner Family's other profound wine ventures such as Caymus, Belle Glos, and Conundrum, Jenny Wagner takes the reins of Emmolo Winery and is making a hit with these new releases! Her family has a long-standing history in Napa Valley beginning with her great-grandfather, Italian immigrant, Salvatore Emmolo, who planted grapevines and started a grapevine rootstock nursery in Rutherford in the 1920’s. His son, and Jenny's grandfather, Frank Emmolo, ran Emmolo Nursery and built a strong following amongst Napa Valley grapegrowers - becoming the leading supplier to Napa Valley vintners for five decades.
This is an elegant and refined style of Sauvignon Blanc that is subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity. On the nose, aromas of citrus, iron, wet stone and a hint of D’Anjou pear tempt your senses, while a crisp lightness, balanced acidity and underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest please the palate. The significant minerality and soft body rounds out the wine. This Sauvignon Blanc was made to pair with food, yet is very versatile. Bottled using a Guala twist top in lieu of cork.
Fantastic new Sauvignon Blanc from one of our favorite small producers, Eric Kent. Hurry while it's still available.
90 Points Wine Spectator: "Vivid and intense, with honeysuckle, peach and citrus flavors that are bright and juicy, showing a hint of lemon verbena on the long, juicy, supple finish. Drink now. 745 cases made."

The Ghost Block 2013 Morgan Lee Vineyard Sauvignong Blanc is a beautiful, elegant wine that exhibits a great balance of aromas and structure. A classic Sauvignon Blanc with perfect varietal balance. A grassy scent with accented stone fruits, and tropical tones. It leads into flavors of peach, melon, orange peel and pear. A full mid-palette weight of tropical and stone fruits gives way to a lasting finish of citrus and minerality. Its long finish is supported by subtle oak nuances
New release of one of Napa Valley's finest Sauvignon Blancs!
Our 2014 Groth Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in various microclimates of the Napa Valley. The warmer Napa Valley microclimates give us grapes that result in wines with a lush, full melon/citrus character in the aroma and in the flavor. The cooler Napa Valley fruit provides a solid, crisp backbone that gives the wine an exciting liveliness that balances the rich creaminess from "sur lie" aging.
A delicious new Sauvignon Blanc from Napa's up an coming Hall Winery!
92 Points Wine Enthusiast: "Voluptuous and well-developed, this is tingling in acidity with a luscious mouthfeel and flavors of ripe peach, grapefruit and vanilla bean. Complex, the citrus is seasoned with a vibrancy of herb and pepper spice. A delicious wine for fresh oysters or crab cakes."
The 2014 HALL Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc balances expressively ripe fruit with bright, buoyant acidity. The backbone of this lusty blend hails from a vineyard partner in the cool region of Yountville and delivers ripe vibrant citrus flavors. Fermented mostly in stainless steel tanks and refrained from malolactic fermentation, this Sauvignon Blanc possesses an assured fruit forwardness, freshness, and focus. The grapes were harvested at the height of ripeness and stirred the yeast lees after fermentation. The result is a rich wine with layered texture. Aromas of pink grapefruit and Meyer lemon blossom are complemented by a lush cascade of guava and lychee on the palate carrying through to a crisp, ringing finish.
One of the best California Sauvignon Blancs we've tasted! Extremely limited production - only 265 cases produced.
92 Points Wine Spectator: "Lovely melon and spice flavors are ripe and fresh, highlighted by fragrant floral, honey and green apple notes. This has refreshing acidity and wonderful focus, with a tropical edge on the finish. Drink now."
We're already big fans of this winery's Cabernet Sauvignon, and now we love their sauvignon Blanc sourced from a ranch on the eastern side of Napa Valley about three miles south of the winery. The fruit is whole-cluster pressed and fermented in 60% stainless steel and 40% French oak barrels. Jericho Canyon 2013 Sauvignon Blanc has fresh tropical fruit notes with hints of guava, green apple, lime, and crushed stone. Its rich, juicy palate finishes with just the perfect touch of vibrant acidity. Delicious!
Joseph Phelps is a legend in Napa for defining that delicious rich Napa style which is epitomized by Phelps “Insignia”- but he also makes a knockout Sauvignon Blanc from Napa as well.
The 2013 Joseph Phelps Sauvignon Blanc is beautiful, focused and full of energy. Pears, lemon oil, white flowers and mint flesh out in an inviting, layered Sauvignon Blanc endowed with gorgeous texture and personality. The aromatics are expressive and floral, but the emphasis is all on texture, much of it coming from fermentation in puncheon.
The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc was aged for seven months in 35% new French oak puncheons and 65% one to three-year-old French oak puncheons and barrels before bottling in May 2014. The lees were stirred during and after fermentation for a silky, round mouthfeel and light oak influence while preserving focused acidity and finesse in the wine. This wine shows bright Mandarin orange blossom, lemon curd, citrus and honey aromas. Full, ripe flavors of Meyer lemon, pear, honeydew melon and vanilla cream fill the mouth with a streak of minerality through to the nicely balanced long citrus finish. The 2013 growing season proved to be another excellent year in Napa Valley. Overall, it was slightly warmer than 2012, resulting in the earliest Sauvignon Blanc harvest at Phelp's St. Helena Home Ranch Vineyard in the last seven years.
Great new small-production white from a boutique Napa producer.
90 Points Wine Enthusiast, "Editor's Choice": "Showing how fine Sauvignon Blanc can be in Napa Valley, this has citrus, melon and honey flavors. It's dry, creamy and rich in vanilla flavor, with a bright edge of acidity. A touch of oak adds a note of smoke."
A fantastic Sauvignon Blanc from Lail and winemaker Philippe Melka.
The Lail Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc exhibits the fabulous acidity, minerality, and amazing purity of its Sancerre sisters. Produced with a focus on preservation of aromatics and acidity, it has an elegant and intense perfume of geranium, melon and lime, and crisp fruit flavors with profound richness and length
93 Points Connnoiseur's Guide: "Veering away from the fresh, grassy model for Sauvignon Blanc and instead showing a mix of richness and hints of honey backed up by steely, gravelly notes, light grasses and whispers of Meyer lemons, this nose promises much and the wine delivers fully on the palate. It is supple and somewhat polished to start yet firms up across the palate in a way that invites a few years of cellaring for those who will resist its current charms. It has the range and stuffing to work with rich lobster dishes."
Cabernet specialist Larmead Vineyards also make a tiny amount of one of Napa's best sauvignon blancs. Extremely limited.
Robert Parker: " The only white wine produced is the 100% Sauvignon Blanc from 12-year-old vines that is aged 10 months on its lees in 12% new French oak. A beautiful white, the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc Lillie exhibits a white Burgundy-like texture that gives the wine a rich, savory quality. Exotic aromas of mangoes, marmalade, lemon grass and pineapples jump from the glass of this medium-bodied, gorgeously fruity, exuberant Sauvignon that should drink well for 4-5 years."
A delicious new Sauvignon Blanc release from one of our favorite Napa Valley winieries. Only 250 cases produced - hurry.
Beauty, brains and depth of character, this summer stunner has it all. Loads of ripe on-the-tree mango fruit, guava and nectarine are laced with tropical spices and complex minerality. Vibrant fresh fruit flavors are creamy textured and tantalizing while the wine holds your gaze with a steady beam of acid. Perfectly proportioned and seamlessly fitted our 2015 Sauvignon Blanc finishes with notes of vanilla, lime, exotic mineral spice, and endless intrigue.
One of the best white dicsoveries we've made this year! Try this small-production gem from Epoch winemaker Jordan Fiorentini while we still have it.
Jordan Fiorentini has been making wine for 13 years in the US and Italy. She hit national attention with her elegant Sauvignon Blancs at Chalk Hill in Sonoma County. She continues to impress the critics with her Rhone style blends at Epoch in Paso Robles. She started Magna Mater as a project to make a "winemakers wine". Jordan has styled this Sauvignon Blanc to be the embodiment of what she would like to drink after a day in the vineyard. Sauvignon Blancs are known for expression of terroir. Magna Mater's 2013 Vogelzang Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. After exhaustive research, Fiorentini finally chose this award-winning site in Santa Barbara County to source her grapes. Vogelzang Vineyard is striking in its simple complexity. Barrel fermented in 75% stainless steel drums and 25% new French oak (Sylvain cooperage) this wine seesaws between purely delicious and subtly pensive, prompting its moto found on the cork: faciam ut mei memineris (I will make you remember me).
New rare white from Quintessa!
Intrigued with making a white wine from Quintessa, Agustin Huneeus planted a small plot of Sauvignon Blanc at the estate in 2002. Illumination first emanated from this vineyard, its rays penetrating the palates of sommeliers, friends and guests who requested it for their own cellars. He now shares this limited production wine with kindred spirits seeking illumination via wines that express their place of origin.
Tasting Notes: "The Illumination Sauvignon Blanc is aromatic with white peach, Meyer lemon and jasmine notes. Soft tropical fruit flavors lead to a lush mouth-feel with a clean finish enhanced by mineral notes."
"Illumination is "America's finest Sauvignon Blanc", Robert Whitley
Rudd, one of Napa Valley's premier producers, also makes one ofthe best Sauvignon Blancs in California.
The Sauvignon Blanc from Mt. Veeder comes from three different clones. Clone 1, the most traditional clone used in California, has classic acidity and structure, a Musque clone that delivers amazing floral aromatics and a special French clone 530 which has ripe melon and tropical notes and adds a rich viscosity to the wine.
New release! Hands-down the most delicious Sauvignon Blanc from California we've tried - Do yourself a favor and try this beauty.
Selene wines are produced by Mia Klein who also happens to be the consulting winemaker at Dalla Valle, Fisher and Bressler Vineyards. For her own label, she sources fruit from the famed Hyde Vineyard (Kistler, Paul Hobbs) to produce perhaps our favorite Sauvignon Blanc to date. The Selene 2012 Hyde Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc aromas begin with white peach, pineapple, melon, and tangerine. This wine also has a very floral, blossomy character about it with pear blossom and honeysuckle tones in particular. The flavor concentration has wonderful intensity and impact in the mouth, with that just right balance between rich viscosity and good acidity.
Robert Parker: "One of Mia Klein's undeniable specialties is her exotic, perfumed, seductive Sauvignon Blanc."
Silver Oak's Twomey Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from two family-owned estate vineyards. Limited new release.
The Twomey 2014 Sauvignon Blanc beautifully combines citrus, pear and green apple characters in a complex and balanced expression of this exciting varietal. It has a light straw color and a nose of grapefruit rind, juniper berry, star fruit, green apple, pear and elderberry flower. It has a juicy, fruit-sweet attack with notes of honey and citrus on the palate. The wine has a long, lingering, fresh fruit finish.
Notes from the winery: We grow Sauvignon Blanc on two estate properties: our vineyard surrounding our Calistoga winery and our Westside Road Vineyard below our winery in Russian River Valley. The soil and climate differences at these two sites gives us a range of expressions of Sauvignon Blanc that we blend to create our unique style. The Napa Valley fruit offers us a deft balance of citrus and mineral elements which is complemented beautifully by the guava and tropical notes from our Sonoma County fruit. With careful viticulture and judicious winemaking, we capture the essence of the soil and sunny climate in which these grapes are grown, and the minerality and freshness so becoming to this varietal.
A fantastic new Sauvignon Blanc and one of the best in California we've found this year!
Fresh pineapple, passion fruit, pink grapefruit, cream and liquid mineral are present and rich in this wine. Excellent balalnce and acidity. Fans of Rochioli and Duckhorn will rejoice over the great quality and price of this wine. The fruit for this wine is grown on our Vineyard Manager's property in Lake County. We select the vineyard section and specific vines based on cluster size, weight and ripeness. Notes of melon, fig and pears create a creamy undercurrent; the vibrant acidity will make it food friendly with a variety of dishes.
