Beautifully done on the palate and made in a seamless, elegant style, it has a kiss of Pauillac in its nicely integrated acidity, ripe, building tannins, a touch of earthiness, and a great finish. A great newcomer to the Napa Cabernet scene! Silver Oak has a vineyard next door and their neighbor to the west sells their fruit to Caymus: Grassi comes from prime Cab country. Mary Maher, vineyard manager for Harlan, and winemaker Robbie Meyer were instrumental in developing the vineyard and crafting a fantastic small-production Cabernet.
95 Points Antonio Galloni: "The Grassi Cabernet Sauvignon is the highlight in this range from Grassi. Fresh, vibrant and delineated, it is incredibly delicious, even in the early going. In this vintage, the Grassi Cabernet is especially refined, displaying a striking floral quality and fewer of the jam/chocolate flavors that were common just a few years ago. Gentler extractions than in the past have paid off, big time. A gorgeous wine."
Robert Parker: "Grassi is one of my favorite under the radar producers in Napa Valley. The estate excels with both Ribolla Gialla – a white grape native to Italy’s Friuli – and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best of all, the wines remain very fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the glass.”

One of the top Napa Cabernets of the vintage, the Groth Reserve Cab is a classic. Delicious now but a great cellar candidate as well. Limited.
94 Points James Suckling: "This is really beautiful with raspberry, blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors. Its full-to medium-bodied with firm, integrated tannins and a beautiful finish. Shows lots of finesse and polish in the texture. Some may find it a little austere, but it should soften in a year or two. Better after 2021."
93 Points Wine Spectator: "Features overt cherry, plum and raspberry fruit flavors, gilded with anise and mesquite hints. Maintains good energy thanks to fresh acidity through the finish, revealing a long echo of savory and iron. Inviting now, but suitable for cellaring. Best from 2021 through 2033."
Wine Spectator #4 wine of 2019!

A new wine from Groth based around Cabernet Sauvignon (78%) with smaller amounts of Merlot (20%) and Petit Verdot (2%). The wine is a very small production of just 500 6pk cases. It was aged in 70% new French oak for 22 months. "Oakcross" was the original name of this estate when it was planted in 1973 prior to being purchased in 1981 by Dennis and Judy Groth.
94 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "A new wine in this range, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakcross is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Merlot adds mid-palate sumptuousness to this gorgeous Oakville red blend. Silky and racy to the core, but with plenty of tannins to support it all, the Oakcross has a ton to offer. Dark plum, espresso, licorice, spice and cedar linger nicely."
93 Points James Suckling: "Black fruit, chocolate, cedar and dried spices on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced, with delicious chocolate-cherry character and a chalky texture. A blend of 49% merlot, 47% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot."
Groth Winery sits on the 121-acre Oakcross Vineyard planted by Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan of Silver Oak in the heart of the Oakville appellation. This prime Cabernet Sauvignon land serves owner Dennis Groth and winemaker Michael Weis well as they fashion some of Napa Valley's best Cabernets.

The Groth 2018 Cabernet hits on all cylinders. Consistently one of the benchmark wines of the Napa Valley. Another Napa Classic!
94 Points Wines & Spirits: "Cameron Parry found his cabernet vines ripened their fruit in 2018 at Brix levels that were lower than usual, sustaining acidity in the grapes. They produced a young and luscious Oakville cabernet, the wine integrating oak and fruit tannins in a way that supercharges its flavors. Rather than weighing the wine down, the structure empowers it, presenting plummy blue fruit, scents of cassis and fruity-umami notes of mushrooms that last, gracious, gentle and refined."
93 Points Wine Enthusiast "Editor's Choice": "Blended with 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, this Cabernet opens with earthy aromas of tar, sage and cedar. It expands on the palate to show an elegant structure of finessed, supple tannins alongside layers of clove and cinnamon atop ripe red and black berries."
92 Points Wine Spectator: "A hint of singed savory leads off, turning quickly to a core of raspberry and mulberry fruit, lined with alluring tea, sanguine and iron notes. Offers fine-grained grip and should unwind nicely in the cellar."

A fantastic small-production California Syrah!
We continue to quietly source from some of the most accomplished growers of Syrah in California. These cool sites where Syrah is neighbored by Pinot Noir, give the varietal a rare depth and complexity. Each vintage we blend small amounts of complimentary varietals from Old Vines to complete the wine.
These savory characters are so important to us and really shape the philosophy of our wine. Fine, lignified tannins offer a framework which keep this vintage’s generous nature focused and texturally balanced.
Every harvest presents us with a unique set of flavors. The character of Lacuna pivots slightly to highlight the attributes of the vintage without straying from our philosophy. We are genuinely excited about the results this year and hope you enjoy them too.
We are excited to offer a new release of Lacuna!

The Newton "Unfiltered" Chardonnay has just been released - always one of California's finest Chardonnays! Newton Vineyards is one of the great vineyard estates of Spring Mountain with neighbors like Cain, Pride Mountain and Paloma. Their highly-rated Unfiltered Chardonnay sells out every year.
93 Points Robert Parker: "Newton’s unfiltered Chardonnay has been a consistent winner since it was first launched in the early 1980s, when the fruit was coming from what is today John Kongsgaard’s Judge cuvée. Newton is still making this wine unfiltered, and the Chardonnay Unfiltered is rich and displays beautiful white peach, honeysuckle and tropical fruit, some nice, crisp wet pebble minerality in the background and a full-bodied mouthfeel. Deep, layered and complete, this is a big-time winner.....
...This cuvée has been one of California’s great classic Chardonnays for over two decades. It also has remarkable aging potential. In the early years, much of the credit went to some of the talented people who worked here, including John Kongsgaard, Luc Morlet and Michel Rolland."

Post & Beam is an outstanding value in Napa Valley Cabernet from the folks at Far Niente. Highly recommended.
Named for the simple yet elegant barns that dot the American landscape as an enduring reminder of our history, Post & Beam represents craftsmanship, tradition, legacy, and purity. There’s nothing unnecessary or overly complicated about a post and beam barn. It just works beautifully. The same can be said for our wines. They are simple, elegant, pure expressions of each grape in its finest form.
Tasting Notes: "The Post & Beam 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon provides pure, fresh plum, violet and sage aromas lead to a round palate layered with ripe plum, dark berry and black currant flavors. Leather, cedar and dried herb accents, along with whispers of vanilla and oak provide depth, while lithe acidity keeps the wine lifted, balanced and bright. Supple tannins feel like suede-velvet and carry the elegant fruit and spice flavors into a finish that goes on and on. This debut vintage is pure finesse.
