The newest member of the lineup is the Sonoma-Cutrer 2013 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, an assemblage of select lots representing the best that the Sonoma Coast appellation has to offer. The backbone of this blend comes from the estate Cutrer vineyard, where vines struggle in alluvial soils and their Grand Cru approach to viticultural practices assures that only the finest fruit is the foundation for this offering. Vine Hill, with sandy, clay, loam soils adds significantly to the mix.
Distinct aromas of ginger and lemon zest are joined by toasty coconut, melon and caramel alongside a mineral, flinty cedar-chest oakiness overlaid by notes of honeysuckle. In the mouth, a well-balanced wine with a solid acid backbone is rich, medium to heavy in weight with a broad yet still firm mid-palate. The finish is long and lingering and notable for a touch of spice and lively acidty. Flavors of lemon, apple, pear, pineapple and cantaloupe -- the full array of Sonoma's cornucopia of fruit, joins a nutty, spicy, lightly oaky profile that stakes out a unique territory sure to please those who love Chardonnay
A new great-value Napa Chardonnay from the folks at PlumpJack's Odette Estate. Limited.
An approachable fun interpretation to Napa Valley Chardonnay! Aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, and acacia flower. On the palate flavors of green apple, guava, and quince, backed by refreshing acidity and a pleasing finish. We are proud to produce Chardonnay that we feel is a great representation of the broader Napa AVA.
North is the new label from the Central Coast Rhone Master John Alban. Extremely limited.
95 Points Robert Parker: "The greatest Chardonnay yet from Alban, his 2013 Chardonnay had just been bottled prior to my visit. It certainly was showing no ill affects and offers sensational, Montrachet-like notes of ripe apple and orchard fruits, toasted nuts, mineral and cream. Full-bodied, ripe, voluptuous and layered, it's a shame more producers don't attempt this style and settle for a mid-weight, overly acidity, more innocuous expression of the variety. Drink this beautiful wine anytime over the coming decade...These Pinots and Chardonnays all come from John Alban's estate in the Edna Valley. Without a doubt, these 2013s are the greatest I've tasted from him."."
Limited new release from cult Chardonnay producer Mark Aubert.
94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Chardonnay UV-SL is made from two selections of Old Wente Chardonnay clones planted in classic Goldridge sandy soils. It exhibits the same greenish hue as its siblings, but is slightly more restrained and subdued. Notes of white currants, quince, poached pears, wet rocks and loamy soil nuances emerge from this terroir-driven Chardonnay. Drink 2015-2014...
...Mark Aubert is one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays. His offerings are all made like grand cru Burgundies with full malolactic, the use of French oak and lees stirring, but the purity of fruit, the textural dimensions, and the stunning singularity of these Chardonnays can only be matched by a handful of other Chardonnay producers in the world. He’s that good. Aubert’s 2012s, which I have enjoyed multiple times out of bottle since I purchased most of them, merit the scores I gave them last year."
