95 Points — Jeb Dunnuck: “As with the appellation Chardonnay, the 2024 Pinot Noir is a barrel-selection of the vineyard designates, a 20-plus barrel blend, and the producer’s biggest production, flagship wine. Rich red berry and baking spice meet a less tightly structured, more giving, full-bodied expression of the overall place, with elements of forest and tea around well-integrated tannins and oak, less of it new. Drink now through 2030.”
A Taste of the Santa Lucia Highlands
ROAR’s Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir draws fruit from vineyards across the appellation, including select lots from its vineyard-designated wines. The region’s persistent coastal fog and powerful afternoon winds from Monterey Bay extend the growing season, allowing Pinot Noir to develop remarkable depth and aromatic intensity while retaining vibrant natural acidity.
The 2024 delivers red berries, black cherry, baking spice, forest and savory notes with a supple texture and fine-grained tannins. Aged for 10 months in French oak, it is approachable now while offering the structure to develop beautifully over the next several years.
Founded by longtime growers Gary and Rosella Franscioni, ROAR remains a family-run producer focused on showcasing the distinctive vineyards and terroir of the Santa Lucia Highlands.
