Ridge 2024 Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley
95 Points - new release
The new Ridge Lytton Springs Red now available. Always one of our favorite Zin-based reds from California.
*Wine Spectator #3 Wine of 2025!
97 Points Vinous: "The Ridge 2024 Lytton Springs is so vibrant and resonant. The purest, most crystalline black cherry fruit explodes from the glass, highlighted by a technicolor array of citrus peel, gamey elements and wild, heady violet florals. With aeration, the 2024 deepens dramatically, embracing a well of truffly earth tones and serious minerality that lend dynamism and intrigue. Chalky tannins have already integrated quite a bit in bottle, but the 2024 is a wine that will clearly cruise for two decades, likely more. Magnificent."
95 Points James Suckling: "One of the most structured, concentrated and powerful of Ridge's old-vine zinfandel-dominant reds. Packed with blueberries, raspberries, orange zest, chocolate, turned earth and new leather. Delicious, detailed and deep. Drink now or hold."
95 Points Decanter: "A classic old field blend from Ridge's Lytton Springs vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, initially planted between 1901 and 1910. Winemaker Shauna Rosenblum ferments each block separately, then chooses the best lots to blend into this bottling. Savoury aromas, with an earthy character and dried flowers, and a curious old-library note. A warmer vintage than 2023, it keeps the Zinfandel in a dark, brooding-fruit zone, though brighter highlights of tart citrus and a thread of minerality lift it – helped, perhaps, by a tiny 1% addition of Grenache to the blend this vintage."
Ridge's Lytton Springs Red is a true field blend of ancient vines mostly planted over 100 years ago. The rolling hills of Lytton are covered in a patchwork of these beautiful, old, head-trained vines. Farmed organically, with the utmost care and attention, Ridge takes their role as custodians of this heritage site very seriously. The 2023 vintage shows just how these old vines know how to handle anything mother nature throws at them. The heat spike before harvest was nothing these vines hadn't dealt with before, and the wine is full of life and vibrancy. Briary, brambly deep red fruits, boysenberry, baking spice, crumbly dry earth, raspberry liqueur, and subtle oak frame the medium to full bodied core. Aromatic, expressive and drinking beautifully upon release, but with proven aging potential to boot. A slice of California history for a remarkably affordable price.
