Ramey Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay is consistently one of California's finest Chardonnays. Second-tier doesn't cut it for Ramey fruit sources. Larry Hyde's gem of a property has been recognized on labels from Marcassin, Paul Hobbs and Kistler. Unbelievably nuanced for a full-throttle Chardonnay, this balances California flair with restraint and grip.
95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is one of the richest, most powerful Chardonnays in the range. Here it is the wine's phenolic and sense of vertical structure that stand out most. Even with all of its obvious richness and heft, the Hyde preserves remarkable freshness. Dried herbs, orange peel and buttery notes add nuance on the large-scaled, ample finish."
Another great chardonnay release from the master David Ramey. Get some while it's still available.
92 Points Robert Parker: Ramey’s Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is laced with lemon, pastry, crushed rocks and mint. Beautifully delineated and focused, it stands out for its energy and verve. This is a gorgeous entry-level offering. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016...Once again, I tasted an amazing range of wines with David Ramey. The Chardonnays capture a beautiful middle ground of ripe, California fruit but treated to a long, Burgundy-inspired elevage that relies on natural yeasts and no filtration, among other choices, to bring out the personality of each of the sites Ramey works with. To me, the Ramey Chardonnays have a Chassagne-like richness that is quite appealing, yet they remain laid back in style by California standards."
David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2012 Claret Napa Valley is a great introduction.
91 Points Robert Parker: - "The Claret comes across as quite floral, soft and surprisingly understated for the vintage. Floral notes add brightness on the finish in this gracious, approachable wine. The 2010 is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, and 2% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2022...David Ramey is one of the few California winemakers who thinks in terms of structure, not just flavor, something that sets him apart from many of his peers. All of the wines I tasted at Ramey’s cellar just outside Healdsburg were terrific. I also sampled a number of older wines, all of which have held up very well. Best of all, most of the wines remain very fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the bottle. ."
Claret is an English word meaning wine from Bordeaux. Ramey uses it to signify a blend of the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Ramey 2014 Claret Napa Valley is a blend from the Jericho Canyon Vineyard and Diamond Mountain vineyard.

Robert Parker: "David Ramey has long had one of the most impressive resumes for any California winemaker. He worked at Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux and for Christian Moueix at Dominus. He also consulted and worked for a number of high end Napa Valley wineries. Of course, his first love is Ramey Wine Cellars, and he has built an extensive empire of Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and more recently Syrahs as well as a tiny quantity of Pinot Noir (talk about going to the dark side)."
