The Raen 2019 Fort Ross Seaview Sea Field Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir comes from a new generation of Mondavis, Carlo & Dante. Limited.

99 Points: “This is really refined with black tea, rose petals, orange and blue fruit. It’s medium-bodied with wild-strawberry and forest-floor flavors. Medium-bodied with great vibrancy and beautiful tannins running through the center palate, which is stitched into the wine. Long and true. 100% whole-cluster fermentation. Subtle and energetic. Better after 2025.” – James Suckling (August 2021)

94 Points: “The Raen Pinot Noir Sea Field emerges from a single block in Hellenthal, one of the top sites in Fort Ross-Seaview. There is more vibrancy and power here than in the Royal St. Robert, as fruit and tannin vie for attention. Time in the glass brings out more ethereal qualities that are hugely appealing. I would cellar the 2019 for at least a few years. Maturity 2025 – 2039.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous (January 2021)

When Robert Mondavi Winery was sold in 2004, the brothers joined their father Tim, Aunt-Marcia and grandfather Robert as they founded Continuum in 2005. In 2013 Carlo and Dante founded RAEN winery with the goal to produce world class Pinot Noir on the western hills of the Sonoma Coast. RAEN currently focuses on making three Pinot Noirs, from three unique sites on the Sonoma Coast.

Tasting Notes:  Deep, ruby red in color working its way to an ever slight, ruby hazed rim. Aromas of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, coastal moss, and pomegranate lead to underlying notes of Moroccan mint and wet stone. On the palate the wine opens with bright acidity backed by youthful, fine grained-tannins. Flavors of wild dark berries, and crushed stone lead to a wonderfully long finish. A tiny 154 cases were produced.
