99 Points - limited
New release of Plumpjack's Oakville Estate Cabernet - limited.
98 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "More pure crème de cassis, toasted spices, camphor, graphite, and a touch of acacia flowers emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, which is a much smaller production cuvée from the estate's vineyard in Oakville. Full-bodied, brilliantly textured, and flawlessly balanced, it has ripe tannins, integrated acidity, and the vintage's more pure, elegant, seamless character front and center. It will probably merit a triple-digit rating in 5-6 years and keep for three decades in cold cellars. This is pure class."
99 Points Robert Parker: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose needs a little coaxing before revealing a gorgeous melange of baked black cherries, boysenberries and warm cassis plus hints of mocha, black olives, smoked meats and lilacs with a waft of pencil shavings. The concentrated, hedonic black fruit layers expand in the full-bodied mouth, revealing beautiful floral and savory layers with a firm frame of firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length...
...This enviable estate on the Oakville Corridor, sandwiched between Rudd Estate and Screaming Eagle, and overlooked by Dalla Valle and a handful of other blue bloods is the former Villa Mt. Eden estate made famous by Nils Venge in the 1970s. The great wines of Villa Mt. Eden are well represented by what Plumpjack has accomplished since they took over this estate. There are two cuvees, the basic Cabernet Sauvignon and a Reserve offering."
CADE is Plumpjack's hot new winery on Howell Mountain. Limited.
This Cade 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is filled with a gorgeous perfume of honeyed pears, guava, lemon grass, pink grapefruit and a waft of lemon lime soda. The palate is full of tropical flavors and delicate kiwi plus a greatintensity of lemon and lime citrus flavors. The semillon and viognier added to the blend invoke another level of complexity with flavors orange blossom and lemon curd. The barrel fermentations add a satiny texture, density and viscosity to the mid-palate of the wine. The concrete adds a touch of flint and mineral to the finish of the wine while the stainless steel fermentations preserve the natural Sauvignon Blanc aromatics, the racy backbone and the zesty crispness..

New release of Plumpjack's Reserve Chardonnay - limited.
The 2018 PlumpJack Reserve Chardonnay is a fantastic Napa Chardonnay. Aromas of white peaches, pear, orange blossom and warm apple pie filling are followed on the palate with flavors of Fuji apples, cinnamon stick and lemon curd. Very pleasant to drink now but the acidity gives it room to age.
Plumpjack opts not for the typical profile of Napa Chardonnay with this bottling, but for the "alternative," without malolactic fermentation, and the attendant buttery palate profile. The winery's vintage note explains: "The cooler Carneros site imparts this wine with fresh green apple and Bartlett pear on the nose, while the warmer St. Helena site lends to some tropical notes. The Carneros vineyard also gives this wine a beautiful, bright, lively acidity, which is balanced by the creamy, rich texture of the St. Helena fruit. A touch of oak gives the wine traces of vanilla, flint, and spice."
