Paul Hobbs 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville , Napa Valley

One of Napa Valley's most collectible Cabernets! Paul Hobbs Coombsville Cabernet. Highly recommended.

96 Points James Suckling:
"A delicious, layered, chocolate- and cherry-scented wine that entices you from the first sniff and pulls you through a rich palate and a lingering finish. So luscious, balanced, vivid and deep, showing the silky tannins and cool fruit notes of this southern Napa district. Contains 6% petit verdot, 2% cabernet franc and 4% merlot. Aged in 53% new French oak. Drinkable now, but best from 2030. (JG)"

95 Points Jeb Dunnuck:
"The Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville (83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Merlot) is another deep purple-hued effort from Hobbs that has sensational purity in its cassis and juicy blackberry fruits. These are supported by textbook notes of graphite, freshly sharpened pencils, and spring flowers. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, with ultra-fine tannins, a seamless, elegant texture, and outstanding length, this will compete with wine two to three times the price. It will evolve for 15-20 years."

94 Points Decanter: "This Cabernet Sauvignon, with 2% Cabernet Franc, was aged for 20 months in 53% new French oak barrels. In 2022, savoury spices abound in this red- and black-fruited wine from Paul Hobbs's Coombsville estate. Leather, violets, and loamy earth mingle with vibrant currant fruit. Medium-bodied with crunchy tannins, it unfolds through notes of cool, wet slate, sagebrush, and underbrush, leading to a refined and expressive finish. (JC)"

In 1998, Paul Hobbs actualized his dream by establishing the Katherine Lindsay Estate in Sebastopol, California. Named for his great-grandmother, the vineyard pays homage to Paul’s roots on the family farm in New York and serves as a constant source of inspiration. Since the site’s first harvest in 2003, Paul has continued to expand the winery’s vineyard footprint, which today encompasses eight sites in premier appellations for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Over many years, Paul has become renowned for his ability to identify and cultivate both new and historic vineyards—a skill he attributes to his agrarian upbringing. With every vintage, he deepens his knowledge of the estate vineyards and how they translate to the bottle. Combining an innovative approach with precise attention to detail, Paul continues to lead the farming and winemaking initiatives at Paul Hobbs Winery today.
