Limited new release of Patria 'Les Avoyelles,' a small-production gem of a Napa Valley Cabernet from Winemaker Tony Biagi of PlumpJack.
100 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Deep purple-hued, the Patria 2023 Avoyelles Oakville reveals cassis, liquid violets, flowers, and new leather. Full-bodied and incredibly pure on the palate, it shows deep, rich concentration and elegant precision. Based on 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 24 months in 100% new French oak, this profound effort will need 6-8 years of cellaring and keep for two decades.
95 Points Wine Spectator: "This is dark and alluring, with a steeped feel to its core of black currant and blackberry paste flavors as they move in lockstep with walnut husk, dark tobacco, cold cast iron and menthol notes. Well-structured, with an old-school feel buttressed by the vintage’s succulent edge. This will need a little patience. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2029 through 2043."
Patria Avoyelles is a striking expression of Oakville's storied terroir, where the legendary soils of Napa Valley's North Coast yield fruit of remarkable depth. This Bordeaux-style blend leads with 49% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Cabernet Franc, resulting in a wine of structure and finesse. Expect layers of dark currant, black cherry, and subtle cedar, framed by firm yet polished tannins and a long, savory finish. At 15.2% ABV, it carries the richness typical of the vintage while retaining balance and precision. A compelling choice for collectors seeking a refined, age-worthy Oakville red.
