97 Points - limited
Limited release of Santa Barbara's new Cult Pinot Noir. Winemaker Matt Dees (Jonata, The Hilt) is crafting some of the area's best wines.
97 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Sourced from Mount Carmel Vineyard on the southern side of the appellation and fermented with 6% whole clusters, the Mail Road 2023 Pinot Noir Mount Carmel Vineyard was aged 12 months in once- and twice-used French oak. Similarly medium ruby and semi-opaque, it offers wild raspberries, rose petals, underbrush, and subtle marine nuances. Medium-bodied, ultra-pure, seamless, and silky on the palate, with integrated acidity, ultra-fine tannins, and a gorgeous finish, it's a sensational Grand Cru-level effort from this team and has so much to love. It will keep for 15+ years in cold cellars. Drink 2025-2040."
Mount Carmel Vineyard is the exclusive purveyor to Mail Road Wines. Mount Carmel Vineyard is located on a steep, south-facing cliff, north of the Santa Ynez River. Established in 1990 by Ron and Nancy Piazza, the vineyard is planted to a variety of own-rooted, organically and principally dry farmed, heritage Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones. The vineyard is at 800 to 1000 feet elevation, with botella clay, limestone, diatomaceous earth, calcerous deposits and sandy loam soils.
