Gavi dei Gavi, the prestige of La Scolca, is acheived through the most rigorous respoect for nature, according to the most traditional rules of cultivation, from pruning to harvest of vineyards that reach up to sixty years of age. The benchmark for quality worldwide.
Tasting Notes: "Pale straw in color with delicate greenish highlights. Intense lemon citrus fruit with floral and flinty notes on the nose, comparable to the best wines from Chablis. Medium bodied, with apple and more citrus fruit on the palate as well as notes of almonds and hazelnuts. The finish is crisp, refreshing and long.
La Scolca led the movement to establish an exciting, new quality level for dry Italian white wines when the Soldati family launched their trademarked "Gavi dei Gavi" in 1966. Gavi comes from a small growing area in northwestern Italy located north of Genoa on the steep slopes of the Ligurian Apennines. The 62-acre La Scolca estate, owned and directed by Giorgio Soldati, is situated in one of the best communes, Rovereto.
La Scolca is an artisanal winery, which pioneered modern, controlled vinification in stainless steel to preserve the subtle fruit of the Cortese grape. Yields are kept low, well below the legal maximum, through severe pruning and thinning. The oldest vines and best sites are reserved for their Gavi dei Gavi, packaged in a clear Burgundy-style bottle with a distinctive black label.
4 Kilos was started in 2006 by two friends on Mallorca, Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero, who had been working in other wineries and wanted to do their own thing. We're excited to have the small-production wines in the U.S. for the first time!
Francesc is a Mallorcan winemaker known for working with native grape varieties. His partner Sergio Caballero is a musician and director of the Sonar music festival. Together they started 4 Kilos in 2006, garagiste-style, vinifying their first vintage in milk refrigeration units on a sheep farm (Mallorca has lots of these). By the next year they were able to ‘upgrade’ another old sheep farm into a winery to make their line-up of 3 wines, all from indigenous varieties grown organically by small farmers. This is a very small operation trying to work with traditional lesser known local grapes, fermenting naturally, and avoiding any additives including sulfur.
4kilos 2019 “Motor Blanc” is 100% Callet, a grape native to the island; aged three months in clay vats and two months in stainless steel, this is a natural wine that offers fresh, lightly funky aromas and tart strawberry fruit that blended with hints of soil and fresh herbs
New release! The Bloodroot Sonoma County "Vin Gris" Rosé of Pinot Noir is your new summer sipper.
The Bedrock 2021 "Vin Gris"Rosé of Pinot Noir is a delicious new release. Creamy strawberry and rhododendron blossom explode from the glass with touches of watermelon rind. Juicy on the palate with an invigorating lemon curd acidity.
BloodRoot is a secret collaboration between acclaimed winemakers. This group has deep contacts and vineyard sourcing which they knew they would create great wines for relatively modest prices. This group is also masterful at creating blends. They're the chefs that could walk into your house tonight and make a Michelin-starred meal out of anything you have in your fridge and pantry. They want to be anonymous because they have other projects where their wines sell for 4-5x as much money with scores from critics in the 95-100 point range.
