Gallica 2021 "Oakville Ranch" Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
- In stock, ready to ship
A fantastic small-production Napa Cabernet discovery from winemaker Rosemary Cakebread. Highly recommended.
Gallica is a collection of organically farmed single vineyard wines by Rosemary Cakebread. With decades of experience at storied houses in Napa and Bordeaux, Rosemary started making her own wine in 2007. Named as an ode to the ancient apothecary rose [rosa gallica], we honor what aromatics bring to wine. The philosophy at Gallica is a simple one: to craft elegant single vineyard wines farmed organically which accurately depict the site and the story of each unique vintage The estate is nestled in the heart of Napa Valley against the Mayacamas with nearby ambling Sulphur Creek. Surrounded by historic vineyards, coastal oaks, our gardens and olives.
97 Points Vinous: The Gallica 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch is silky, polished and remarkably elegant. Crushed flowers, spice, lavender and a touch of mocha all grace this exquisite, nuanced Cabernet Sauvignon. All the elements are so well balanced. Silky tannins and perfumed floral notes wrap it all together. Today, the 2021 is a bit compact, perhaps because of the high amount of Franc in the blend, but it gains freshness with air...Rosemary Cakebread is one of the most understated and thoughtful winemakers in Napa Valley. These wines speak for themselves."
97 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "There are two Cabernet Sauvignons from Gallica, both of which are made by Rosemary Cakebread. Starting with the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, it checks in as a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc. Blackcurrants, ripe tobacco, cedary herbs, violets, and hints of black olives all emerge on the nose, and this beauty is medium to full-bodied, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It's a classic Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon that can be drunk any time over the coming 15-20 years. I love it even today."
