baby Ghost Block!
The new Oakville Winery 2016 Cabernet is produced by the same folks who make the cult Ghost Block Cabernet. Hurry!
94 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This ageworthy Cab merits comparison with some of its far more expensive Oakville neighbors. Dry and balanced, with ultrarefined tannins, it shows complex flavors of creme de cassis, minerals and cedar. Just beautiful. Noteworthy for listing all its ingredients on the back label. Drink now through 2020."
In 1877 the Oakville Winery became the 9th bonded winery in California, and today, this same winery is the home of our Napa Wine Company, where our family makes all of our organically-grown wines. We are proud to be the only single-digit bonded winery still in existence in California, and our Oakville Winery wines pay homage to this history and heritage. Under the direction of Winemaker Lynn Watanabe, the impeccably-made Oakville Winery Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel are sourced primarily from our Pelissa Vineyard directly behind our winery in the heart of the acclaimed Oakville AVA.
Three generations of the Salvestrin Family have been selling grapes to from their Estate Vineyard in Napa Valley to the best Cabernet producers which now goes into their own wine. The Salvestrin 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is one of
92 Points James Suckling: "Salvestrin is a family affair that began way back in 1932, who was recently voted one of Napa Valley's Top 10 Small Undiscovered Wineries. Their Cabernet is fantastic, with everything you would expect from the varietal: Black cherry, blackberry on the nose, with a touch of spice. Full bodied, with supple tannin and a lengthy finish. At $50, which is unheard of for Napa Valley Cab prices, this is a wine not to be missed."
90 Points Robert Parker: "Made up of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 3% Syrah and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of cassis, earth, red and black cherries, sage and tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied and chewy with an herbal lift....Salvestrin can boast multiple generations farming its vineyards since 1932, so this is by no means a newcomer to the Napa Valley wine scene. These wines never seem to get old, and this will be one our grandchildren can enjoy circa 2050."

A fantastic 2017 Napa Cabernet from Turnbull Cellars. Highly recommended.
93 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Turnbull's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is absolutely gorgeous. Ripe, bold and plummy, with bright floral overtones and succulent red berry and plum fruit, the 2017 is a positively stellar wine. Best of all, it is a screaming value by the standards of Napa Valley Cabernet. Is there a better Napa Valley Cabernet made from estate fruit for $50 a bottle? I doubt it."
92 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The base 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley sports a deep purple hue to go with a big, ripe nose of black fruits, scorched earth, crushed violets, and spring flowers. It has a core of firm tannins, the straight, focused style of the vintage, and a great finish. Cabernet at this price point can be dicey in 2017, but this is solid and well worth the money."
Made from all estate fruit from the Fortuna, Leopoldina, and Amoenus Vineyards, the Turnbull 2016 Napa Valley Cabernet is a great introduction to the Turnbull Winery. Winemaker Peter Heitz is garnering great acclaim for the work he's been doing at this small production facility, and it shows in this bottle. Of the vintage, Heitz says: “This wine captures the essence of where we farm in the Napa Valley. A wine of integrity, it’s a blend that we make to share at our own family table. A quintessential dirt to bottle wine that’s approachable at release and downright delicious.
Robert Parker: "...Readers should check out Turnbull Wine Cellars without delay."
93 Parker - fantastic gem
A sexy, fantastic Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. White Rock Vineyards is a small Napa Valley winery that makes one of the best small-production Cabernet blends in Napa Valley. Highly recommended.
Robert Parker: "The Claret Proprietary Red Wine, 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot has nice red and blackcurrant fruit, licorice and spice box in an elegant Bordeaux-like style. This is medium-bodied wine, can be drunk now or cellared for 10-12 years. It is also a very good value."
The White Rock 2016 Claret Napa Valley is powerful & complex with deep black fruit flavors of blackberry, plum and blueberry, surrounded by White Rock's traditional cedar, spicy cherry and mineral character. A frame of sweet French oak and cabernet's thick rich tannins add backbone and lead the wine to an ageworthy, velvety finish.
Kathryn and Craig Hall are making some of Napa Valley's best Cabernets in their state-of-the-art winery amid the legendary Sacrashe Vineyard in the hills of Rutherford. Get the new vintage before it sells out.
94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "A smoking value, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offers classic notes of blackcurrant and blackberry fruits intermixed with more earthy, tapenade, and olive-like aromas and flavors. It too is full-bodied, has remarkable purity, a seamless texture, and a beautiful finish. It tastes like it cost 2-3 times the price.”
Robert Parker: "...This is a thrilling set of wines from Hall. The estate favors a rich, extroverted style, yet all of these wines have distinct personalities and tons of sheer character. Meticulous viticulture followed by native yeast fermentations, slow, natural malos and minimal rackings are at the heart of the approach at Hall. The wines are aged in French oak (mostly Taransaud, 40-90% new) and are bottled with no fining or filtration. Readers who appreciate the more opulent side of Napa Valley will find much to admire here. Simply put, I was blown away by what I tasted."

New Washington State Red from the folks at Cakebread!
Mullan Road Cellars is a journey into Washington winemaking led by Dennis Cakebread of Cakebread Cellars. Drawn by the high quality of wines and the camaraderie of the Walla Walla wine community, Dennis and winemaker Aryn Morell worked with the famed Seven Hills Vineyard on the southern edge of the Walla Walla Valley appellation as well as vineyards in the soon-to-be-recognized Royal Slope appellation to craft this powerful yet elegant Bordeaux-style Red Blend.
previous vintage 94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2015 Columbia Valley Red Wine opens in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, sweet spices and burning embers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with lovely concentration, an abundance of fine-grained tannins and a pure, penetrating finish. A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc, 3,570 cases of this excellent red were produced."

A fantastic new Cabernet from Paso Robles! Wine Enthusiast #10 Wine of 2019!
95 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This bottling remains as impressive and delicious as it did upon debut two vintages ago. Aromas of black cherry, hickory smoke and vanilla cookie lead into a palate of brown sugar, sea salt, caramel and black-cherry foam, all framed by polished tannins and just enough acidity."
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon stems from an endless fascination with the soils and diverse sub-regions of Paso Robles, where exceptional wines are being made. It also tells the story of the Hope family’s long history in the region and how their pride and knowledge can be brought to life in a bottle of wine. Deep ruby in color, the 2015 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon expresses intense fragrances of black currants, ripe black cherries and blackberries with subtle notes of violets, mocha and dried spices. It’s a big, powerful, modern-styled wine with velvety tannins and heaps of juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, while nuances of cedar, clove and vanilla bean round out the long, smooth finish. It’s full bodied, rich and balanced by fresh acidity with a firm, polished tannin structure.
Silverado is one of Napa Valley's classic wineries, and the 2016 Estate Cabernet is classic Napa Valley.
94 Points Decanter: "In another near-perfect growing season, with a mild July and August and warmer temperatures in September, harvest wrapped up on 7 October - just a week before the first big rainstorm. The word that defines this midweight Cabernet is refined. It’s bright, lifted, dark-fruited and juicy, with attractive cassis aromas and savoury herb-and-olive flavours. Though mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, the blend includes a bit more Merlot than usual, as well as dashes of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc."
93 Points James Suckling: "Attractive cassis here with a wealth of plush and nicely ripe blackberry and red-plum aromas and flavors. The palate has fine, firm tannins that carry long and fresh. Drink or hold."

Scott Palazzo makes a small amount of this Bordeaux-style red from Napa Valley that is one of our best discoveries of the year! Don't miss.
93 Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Left Bank Master Blend is blended of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it features intense notions of wild blueberries, raspberry preserves, cassis and cherry cordial with touches of molten chocolate, menthol, licorice and cedar chest. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers loads of black and red fruit layers in the mouth with great freshness and a soft, rounded texture, finishing long."
New Cab from Quintessa
The Faust vineyard is in the new Coombsville AVA, Napa Valley's newest appellation in the eastern hills. Agustin Huneeus, who created Quintessa, sources grapes from his Rutherford estate as well for this lush Cab.
95 Points Brix26: "Sophisticated and supple. Yes, the second label from Quintessa has done it yet again. The Faust Cabernet is pure and straightforward. Black currant, cassis and blackberry fruit on the nose, with just a wisp of toast. Fresh minerals and finely integrated tannins make this Napa classic very drinkable now or easily cellarable for the next 5+ years or so. One of the best 2016 cabs we've found at this price."
94 Points Robert Parker: "A barrel sample, the Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple colored, with a decadent cassis, baked blackberries and plum preserves-scented nose, plus hints of spice cake, cedar and Marmite toast. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and wonderfully spicy in the mouth, it has velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long."
Behind every great wine stands a passionate vintner. Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is the creation of Agustin Huneeus and it continues to satisfy his long held desire to produce a wine that embodies the most seductive characteristics of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a great introduction.
93 Points Aontonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as appealing today as it was last year. Supple, open-knit and expressive, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Floral and savory notes add an attractive upper register in this mid-weight, juicy 2014. Bright red stone fruit, plum and savory notes abound on the finish. This is a gorgeous Napa Valley Cabernet from David Ramey that shows just how appealing 2014 can be."
91 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon delivers notes of ripe blackberries, black cherries and garrigue with hints of Provence herbs and cigar box. The medium-bodied palate offers cassis in the mouth with good core fruit, firm, grainy tannnins and good length. This is textbook Napa Cab, done well...
...David Ramey has long had one of the most impressive resumes for any California winemaker. He worked at Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux and for Christian Moueix at Dominus. He also consulted and worked for a number of high end Napa Valley wineries. Of course, his first love is Ramey Wine Cellars, and he has built an extensive empire of Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and more recently Syrahs as well as a tiny quantity of Pinot Noir (talk about going to the dark side)."
A small-production gem from Napa Valley that we love recommending to Cab lovers.
Cave Dog Red is an honest-to-goodness Right Bank Bordeaux style from Michael Havens, one of our favorite winemakers and a name that should be instantly recognizable from Havens Winery. This new 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc blend is somewhat of a re-creation of Havens "Borriquot.” Made from the same vineyard as the Borriquot, it has the same intense aromatics and spice box nature, with fresh gingerbread, Bing cherry and dry-cured olive aromatics. Soft and velvety on the palate, with the plush, cassis-driven Merlot fruit adding dimension to the delicately spiced Cabernet Franc. A rock-solid offering that should turn heads with its tension and balance. While all the flavors will expand with bottle age, it is still a round, smooth-textured, delicious, gorgeous wine now.
A new great-value Cabernet Sauvignon from the folks at PlumpJack's Odette Estate. Limited.
Blackberry liqueur, blueberries, hints of black currants and dried herbs intertwine into one harmonious wine. The silky texture, fresh acidity and long lingering finish leave a staining impression across the palate. This is a beautiful showing of Cabernet Sauvignon in a truly magnificent vintage.
A true second label, CrossBarn is culled from the same vineyards as Hobbs’ estate wine. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged twenty months in French and American oak barrels, the Crossbarn Cabernet is bottled both unfined and unfiltered. Awesome juice from a winemaking paragon.
previous vintage 91 Points Robert Parker: "The Cabernet Sauvignon Crossbarn is a gorgeous, fruit-driven wine bursting with dark red fruit, new leather, spices and licorice. Expressive aromatics are woven throughout in this beautifully delineated, entry-level Cabernet. The final blend includes 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Hobbs uses a touch of American oak for this Crossbarn label. The main vineyards are State Lane and Mast, both in Yountville"
Bob Foley (winemaker at Pride), crafts this massively endowed Cabernet. While only scant amounts are made, the Engel Family Cabernet is a classic. If you like the wines of Switchback, Pride, Hourglass, this is one not to be missed.
The Engel Family 2010 Cabernet Napa Valley has a great ripe texture with explosive elderberry, plum and chocolate flavors. Quite full bodied with powdery, sweet fruit. Really huge and delicious. Try it while its available which, sadly, won't be long. Production is tiny.
The Girard 2017 Artistry Red Blend showcases aromatics of vanilla and tobacco intertwined with black and red fruit notes. The palate coats with bright cherry on the front, vanilla and mocha followed by blackberry compote and finishing with leather and textured tannins. The structure of the acidity, tannin and fruit present a well-balanced wine that, with a little time to decant, becomes even more expressive.
Girard sources Cabernet Sauvignon for this blend from St. Helena, Oakville, Diamond Mountain and Pope Valley for their ability to offer rich and supple fruit flavors with well-integrated tannins. Merlot from Yountville and Rutherford lend lush fruit components while our primary sources for Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from Pope Valley allow for longer hang time. The artful blend of grapes come from both hillside and valley floor vineyards, providing rich texture, balance and integrated tannins. Every year, this blend is perfected to showcase the very best of each year’s harvest. 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Franc & 7% Malbec.
A fantastic new discovery from Westwood Winery, one of our favorite new small-production wineries and winemaker Philippe Melka.
96 Point Wine Enthusiast *Editor's Choice*: "This red is brightly layered in fresh bluefruit, meat and garrigue, showing plenty of density and complexity. It has a wild character thats intriguing and energetic, with lasting threads of white and black pepper on the finish."
96 Points Decanter: "Winemaker Philippe Melka collaborated with Westwood Estate to create the inaugural release of this proprietary red. Melka blended in 55% Cabernet Sauvignon with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from Westwood’s biodynamically farmed Annadel Gap Vineyard. The prestigious, cool climate site is located between two mountains in Sonoma County, and is influenced by the Pacific, 20 miles to the west. Aromas of sweet, savory soil are primed with rich tones of blueberry preserves. Generous and a true extrovert, this red gives wide berth on the palate to creamy boysenberry and luscious, ripe plum. Red floral and graphite strike an accord with high-energy acidity. Finely grained tannins grip like a professional golfer, firm, but not tight – confident and seamless. Finishes with a snip of cayenne, sparking an alignment with cinnamon oak as the blue fruit turns darker."
BLEND: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre
Chateau Montelena is one of California's historic wineries and consistent producers of some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. Another great Montelena Cabernet.
88 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Soft, fruity and easygoing, the Napa Valley Cabernet shows the mid-weight structure of the vintage nicely. In 2017, Montelena did not pick one 11-acre vineyard because of the fires, which means that the blend has a bit more Merlot than normal. That, in turn, adds to the wine's supple, forward feel."
A fantastic buy in Napa Valley Cabernet from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.
The Stag's Leap ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon opens with intriguing plum, ripe fig and allspice aromas. On the palate, the wine offers flavors of ripe blackberry, chocolate-covered cherry and hints of cedar. There’s a nice palate weight and texture with ample, yet fine-grained tannins and a soft finish.
This is part of Stag's Leap's Napa Valley Collection. Named for the Greek goddess of the hunt to honor the winery's quest for the best grapes from the Napa Valley with which to blend with the winery's own fruit to create a Cab that is quintessentially Napa Valley. This Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon offers pleasing aromas of black cherries, red plums, violets, nutmeg and sandalwood along with a hint of dried herbs. The cherry and plum notes carry over onto the palate and combine with ripe, mixed berries. The wine has a smooth, supple entry with good mid-palate structure with fine-grained tannins that lead to a lingering berry-cherry finish.
A fantastic new Napa Red discovery - highly recommended while this small-production gem is still available.
92 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Red Blend O.P.C. is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah and Merlot. Creamy, voluptuous and super-inviting, the O.P.C. will drink well with minimal cellaring. The blend varieties works nicely to soften some of the tannic clout of the Cabernet, which in turn allows the lush fruit – always a signature of these super-expressive, generous wines – to shine through."
91+ Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Proprietary Red Blend O.P.C. is a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Malbec, 24% Syrah and 4% Merlot. Very deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up tons of earth-inspired scents—tree bark, tilled soil, underbrush and fungi—with a core of blackberries and blackcurrants plus hints of tobacco and bay leaves. Full-bodied, firmly textured and with great freshness, it has a muscular black fruit palate and long earth-laced finish."
previous vintage 95 points (Editors’ Choice) Wine Enthusiast: "Just gorgeous. Floods the mouth with decadent black currant, cherry, chocolate, anise, beef jerky and smoky oak flavors that stun for their addictive deliciousness. Yet it is perfectly dry, and the balance of rich, ripe tannins, acidity and smoky oak is near perfect. The wine is a blend of Bordeaux varieties and Syrah, from esteemed vineyards including Hyde, Stagecoach and Caldwell."
The young Buoncristiani brothers have harnessed their shared passion for creating handcrafted, premium wines and have quickly created a buzz about the brand. Their family winery in the Napa Valley has turned out a Proprietary Red that has been knocking off more famous names in a variety of comparative tastings, including labels that fetch more than three times its price!

Ridge's Estate Cabernet Sauvigon is what we call "baby Monte Bello" and an amazing buy in Cabernet.
previous vintage 94+ points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes from the Santa Cruz Mountain estate, and it follows its big brother Monte Bello's style with a terrific sense of elegance paired with richness. Lots of crème de cassis, crushed violets, vanilla, tobacco leaf, and cedar notes flow to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, layered Cabernet Sauvignon that has terrific purity, building tannins, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today yet won't hit prime time for another 5-7 years, and it's going to evolve for 15-20 years (probably longer)."
previous vintage 94 points Vinous: "Once again an overachiever, Ridge's Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is regal. Aromatically intense and deep on the palate, the 2016 proves to be utterly captivating from the very first taste. Dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, dried flowers, leather and menthol infuse the 2016 with remarkable complexity. In 2016, the last year of the drought cycle Ridge made one of the very best editions of this wine. Just as remarkably, the 2016 is incredibly harmonious for such a young wine."
The Monte Bello vineyard was first planted when the winery was built, in 1886. In the early 1940s, the last of the old vineyard was abandoned; in the late forties a few blocks were replanted. Those cabernet vines - now sixty years old - produced the first Ridge Monte Bello in 1962, and subsequent vintages until the mid-seventies. By then, blocks replanted during the sixties were maturing, and their fruit considered for use in the Monte Bello. A number of those consistently produced a softer, more accessible wine and were combined as the stylistically distinct Santa Cruz Mountains Estate.
Great boutique cabernet discovery
A fantastic new Cabernet discovery from Round Pond's Rutherford Vineyard - limited. Round Pond's 2013 Cabernet was made by winemaker Brian Brown and consulting winemaker Thomas Brown (Schrader, Outpost ) who already has two "100-point" Cabernets under his belt at Schrader Cellars. Sweet red plum, wild flowers, mint and cinnamon meld together in a medium-bodied, gracious Cabernet that will drink well with minimal cellaring.."
92 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford, a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec, is a beauty. It's also realistically priced by Napa standards. The White Rock Vineyards 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits powerful, dark fruit aromas and a rich, broad mouth-feel. Ripe blackberry and currant are complemented by undertones of cedar, coffee and vanilla bean. Notes of chocolate and a hint of licorice linger through a finish of lush tannins and dark plum. Only several hundred cases produced.
One of California's heirloom Cabernets from Hendry Winery.
Deep, dense, ruby color. As has been the case with the reds of this vintage, the aromas are clean, pretty, spicy and complex. Tea, leaf, and dark fruit aromas are well-integrated with those of smoky oak. Whereas the 2013 reds were deep and brooding, inaccessible in the months before release, and evolving slowly, the 2014 wines, from a similarly warm, drought year, have an attractiveness and softness in character that indicates earlier drinkability. On the palate, silky and bittersweet flavors of dark cherries and semi-sweet chocolate. Tannins are fine in texture and palate coating, though not as intense as those of our 2013 Cabernet. This wine will play well with rich, braised dishes and grilled meats, and has the finesse and balance to be a go-to wine for at least the next 10-15 years.

previous vintage 94 points Robert Parker: "John Anthony Vineyards has produced a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon with notes of plum, blueberry, black raspberry and the telltale blackcurrant. The wine exhibits a gentle and judicious use of oak, medium to full body, a lush suppleness, and a deep ruby/purple color. This is impeccably made, well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with elegance yet authority. Drink it over the next 12-15 years"
New release of Orin Swift's Papillon Cabernet has arrived! Fast becoming a cult classic, grab a few bottles before it goes away.
previous vintage 94 Points Robert Parker: "The Bordeaux Proprietary Blend Papillon was aged 16 months in 40% new French oak. Fairly priced for what the consumer gets, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc (15.1% alcohol) exhibits notes of forest floor, graphite, blackcurrant, blackberry fruit and spring flowers followed by a full-bodied, unctuously textured, deep, rich pure wine to drink over the next 10-15+ years."
Orin Swift Cellars is best known for The Prisoner Zinfandel blend, one of our most popular wines the last few years. Winemaker Dave Phinney has turned his midas touch at creating delicious blends to produce the third vintage of Papillon, a stunning bordeaux-blend from choice Napa Valley vineyards in Howell Mountain, Rutherford, Oakville and St. Helena. 60% Cabernet, 37% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. A beautiful, rich young Cabernet that has been getting serious buzz in the wine world,
Robert Craig has consistently ranked among the foremost Napa Valley Cabernet producers since its founding in 1992. The Affinity is a Cab-based bordeaux blend. Highly Recommended.
Robert Parker: "Robert Craig is still one of the most consistent wineries in terms of quality and keeping pricing within realistic levels, not something frequently seen in Napa Valley. The least expensive wine is the Cabernet Sauvignon Affinity, the estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the foothills just south of Stag’s Leap blended with small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. An absolutely stunning value in Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, the wine has an inky/purple color, a big sweet kiss of créme de cassis, spice box, mocha and assorted black fruits. It is full-bodied and ripe with low acidity and sweet tannins. This wine is showy and up front, but has enough stuffing to last 7-10 years or more."
Textbook's "Page-Turner" Proprietary Red is a small-production discovery from the heart of Napa Valley's Oakville District, sourced from a vineyard next to Screaming Eagle. Try this small-production gem while it's still available.
The Oakville District is the heart of Napa Valley and renown for its very finest Cabernet Sauvignon. And for good reason. Its gravelly soils, warm days and cool nights give this Bordeaux variety everything it needs to reach perfection. The Textbook 2010 "Page-Turner" Proprietary Red is a Merlot-based wine much like some of Bordeaux' top cuvees, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blended in. Textbook's 25+ year experience has shown again and again that a blended wine is almost always a superior wine; witness Grande Marque French Champagne, Vintage Port, First-Growths, Petrus, Penfolds Grange. With this in mind, they created "Page-Turner", and believe it is so good you simply can't put it down - just like a great book.
The name "Page-Turner" came from the Pey's 13 year-old daughter who loves to read. "Page-Turner" is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, each contributing unique elements. Each year the exact percentages will change. The Cabernets in the blend come from the same source as TEXTBOOK "Mise en Place" situated next door to Screaming Eagle on Oakville's east-side.
Textbook's "Mise en place" Cabernet is a small-production discovery from the heart of Napa Valley's Oakville District, sourced from a vineyard next to Screaming Eagle. Beautiful Cab for a reasonable price - try it while its still available.
95 Points Brix26: "The Textbook Mise en place Cabernet is grown on the east side of Oakville. Gnarled thirty year-old heritage vines and low yields, combined with 22 months of maturation in new French oak have delivered a 'textbook' Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep, rich and complex, it will continue to improve in bottle for several years."
Fantastic new release!
Well-known for their Chardonnay, Rombauer has now entered the top-tier of Napa Cab producers. A top notch Cabernet.
Made from estate fruit as well as fruit from select growers, Rombauer's Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Stags Leap District, Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder, St. Helena, Calistoga and Rutherford AVAs. The Cabernet Sauvignon is complemented by inclusion of 11% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot and the wine aged in 70% new French oak for 17 months before bottling.
Ghost Block is the latest newcomer to the Napa Valley Cult Cabernet scene! Limited.
94 Points Brix26: "The 2016 Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits the typical distinctive flavors of Ghost Block and the Rock Cairn vineyard. Finesse oriented with an elegant balance and structure. Bright floral aromatics, such as rose petals and tobacco. A full-bodied cabernet that attacks with loads of dark berry fruits, cocoa and nutmeg. The palate is supported by the lasting finish of black cherries and coffee."
Nestled on a gently sloping knoll, Ghost Block vineyard is named in honor of Napa's pioneer winemakers who rest in a tiny 150 year old cemetery on the north edge of Yountville - the epicenter of Napa Valley. Graced with perfect drainage and sunny exposure, Ghost Block Vineyard is a jewel, an heirloom, passed down through a single family for over 100 years. Coveted by celebrity winemakers, the fruit from this and nearby vineyards has been the cornerstone of many of Napa's "Cult Wines". The secret is out. Production is very limited.
One of our favorite secret Cabs!
The Noemi 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is an awesome small-production Napa Cabernet you should try now. The grapes from this vineyard were sold to Caymus and Phelps for Insignia before they started bottling it themselves!
Eleadoro Hernandez and his wife, Noemi, came to the Napa Valley 1982. They moved to St Helena where Eleadoro began working with his Uncle, Fernando. Fernando introduced Eleadoro to John Caldwell shortly after John began planting his Vineyard there in the Coomsville area. He worked with John in the planting and development of these vineyards and eventually became the Vineyard manager. Shortly after leaving the Caldwell ranch, Eleadoro leased 25 acres of land in the Napa Valley on Big Ranch Road and began to plant a 6 or 7 acres a year. Today he has planted a total of 33 acres of Cabernet in that Oak Knoll area . He has sold grapes from this vineyard to world famous Caymus Vineyards and Phelps (for Insignia!). Rolando Herrera of Mi Sueno winery is his winemaker. His first vintage in 2006 he made just four barrels (99 cases.) In 2015 he produced 500 cases.
