New release of Plumpjack's Syrah- limited.
97 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2019 Syrah is fabulous; in fact the Syrah is starting to challenge the Cabernets in this range! Soaring aromatics, plush fruit and compelling inner sweetness make the Syrah one of the most seductive, alluring wines of the year. Sage, tobacco, mint, crème de cassis and spice build into the gorgeous, expansive finish. In a word: Superb."
Grown in Napa, but inspired by the Northern Rhone style, the PlumpJack 2019 Syrah exhibits a smoky, gamey nose layered with white and black pepper, with complementary notes of blueberry and raspberry aromatics. Well structured, the palate is full of bright raspberries, black pepper and smoke. This wine has beautiful finesse, great concentration and vibrant acidity.
New release of Plumpjack's Reserve Chardonnay - limited.
The PlumpJack Reserve Chardonnay 2020 is a fantastic Napa Chardonnay. Aromas of white peaches, pear, orange blossom and warm apple pie filling are followed on the palate with flavors of Fuji apples, cinnamon stick and lemon curd. Very pleasant to drink now but the acidity gives it room to age.
Plumpjack opts not for the typical profile of Napa Chardonnay with this bottling, but for the "alternative," without malolactic fermentation, and the attendant buttery palate profile. The winery's vintage note explains: "The cooler Carneros site imparts this wine with fresh green apple and Bartlett pear on the nose, while the warmer St. Helena site lends to some tropical notes. The Carneros vineyard also gives this wine a beautiful, bright, lively acidity, which is balanced by the creamy, rich texture of the St. Helena fruit. A touch of oak gives the wine traces of vanilla, flint, and spice."
A new great-value Petite Sirah from the folks at PlumpJack's Odette Estate. Limited.
The Adaptation Petite Sirah Napa Valley is loaded with depth, superior concentration and a multitude of layers. It possesses aromatics of blackberry jam, plums, violets, and hints of brown sugar and nutmeg followed by raspberries, cloves and smoky oak on the palate.
New release of Plumpjack's Oakville Estate Merlot - limited.
95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The Merlot is aromatically expressive and dense, a combination that is hugely appealing. Sage, mint, licorice, chocolate, lavender and black cherry jam run through this large-scaled, beautifully resonant Merlot. The interplay of elements here is really quite striking. There is quite a bit to look forward to. A dollop of Malbec rounds out the blend."
92 Points Robert Parker: "Containing a 4% splash of Malbec, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Merlot opens with notions of chocolate-covered cherries, plum preserves, spice cake and black pepper with hints of garrigue and wild sage. Full-bodied and boldly fruited in the mouth, the juicy black fruit is well framed by rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and spicy."
