Its inky purple color is followed by an incredible bouquet of crème de cassis, forest floor, blueberries, huge minerality, full-bodied richness, and an elegant, oh so fine and silky texture that carries masses of fine-grained tannin. It's an utterly sensational 2016 that marries huge richness and power with a sense of elegance, purity, and finesse...An estate I wasn’t familiar with, I was blown away by the wines of Macauley Vineyard. After doing some research, I found out that the wines are made by Kirk Venge, so mystery solved. These are awesome wines and savvy readers need to leap on this bandwagon."
...If I’m not mistaken, Kirk Venge, the son of Nils Venge, is the consulting winemaker for Macauley, and if so, he has clearly turned in an all-star, world-class performance. His father made the first 100-point Napa Valley wine, the 1985 Groth Reserve, but I think the son has taken up his father’s skill set and now is beginning to build on it. The Macauley Vineyard wines from 2014 look to be the finest wines they have made to date, so get on board."
