99 Points - rare
Rare release of one of Napa's most sought-after collector Cabs. Limited.
97 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "A resounding success for the year, the 2017 Cardinale is truly impressive. It is also one of the most refined young wines I have tasted here. In most vintages, Cardinale is predominantly made from mountain sites, but the 2017 is roughly equal parts mountain and valley floor fruit. Inky blue/purplish fruit, white flowers, lavender and mint all build in the glass. Lifted and beautifully perfumed, the 2017 is exceptionally polished."
96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from throughout the valley that was brought up in 80% new French oak, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is dominated by its Stags Leap fruit (which is 30% of the blend) and has the classic elegance and spicy character of that district as well as great red and blue fruits, a seamless, building mid-palate, ripe yet present tannins, and ample tobacco, earth, and spice aromas and flavors. It's plush and textured on the palate yet has the structure to evolve for two decades."
96 Point Robert Parker: "There was no Wallis vineyard fruit used this vintage. Very deep purple-black colored, the 2017 Cardinale charges out of the glass with notes of fresh blackcurrants, blackberries and Black Forest cake plus hints of menthol, cardamom, baking spices and lilacs plus a waft of cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with firm, grainy, ripe tannins and fantastic freshness supporting the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing long and mineral laced."
The Cardinale Estate is situated on its own knoll in the heart of Napa Valley's renowned Oakville District. It consists of a striking stone winery, which features a spacious tasting room with expansive views overlooking the valley. Cardinale creates a single wine from each vintage. The wine is a limited production Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend made from distinct and diverse mountain vineyards situated in the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges surrounding the Napa Valley.

100 Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color. Its nose begins a little reserved, slowly revealing a quiet intensity of freshly crushed blackberries, chocolate-covered cherries, cassis and aniseed with compelling nuances of black tea, cigar box, truffles and charcuterie, plus, with coaxing, gentle wafts of red roses and crushed rocks emerge. The medium to full-bodied palate is simply arresting, offering a a myriad floral and earth sparks amidst a black fruit core and with seamless, firm, very fine-grained tannins. Well-knit freshness brings forth layer after layer of delicate nuances on the very long, mineral-laced finish. The team at Eisele, led by Frédéric Engerer (of Chateau Latour) and beautifully orchestrated by winemaker Hélène Mingot, have knocked it out of the park this vintage with this singular expression that both embraces the site's heritage and reveals parts unknown."
96 points- new Cult Cabernet
Hand-crafted by renowned winemaker Philippe Melka alongside the world's most recognized winemaking consultant, Michel Rolland, these small lot Cabernets are carefully sourced from a patchwork of Napa Valley's most prized vineyards in Rutherford, Oakville, Saint Helena, and Pritchard Hill, including Beckstoffer's To Kalon and Las Piedras Vineyards. Extremely limited.
96 Points Robert Parker: "Barrel samples of the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon showed even greater depth, more body, glycerin, sweeter fruit, but also a vibrancy from the tiny berries and incredibly small yields giving the wine huge concentration, but loads of acidity to buttress the fat and fleshiness of this vintage. This should be a 25- to 30-year wine at the minimum...
...This is the first time I have seen these wines from Alejandro Bulgheroni, a globe-trotting Argentinian/Italian entrepreneur who owns what is an impressive lineup of vineyards from Barossa Valley in Australia to Brunello di Montalcino in Italy, Bordeaux in France, Patagonia in Argentina, and now his own property in St. Helena in Napa Valley. Philippe Melka and Michel Rolland, two French kingpins of oenology, are consultants for his Cabernet Sauvignons."

Thomas Brown (Schrader, Outpost, etc) is one of the best winemakers today and Aloft is his newest project. This Howell Mountain vineyard reveals a different soil type as you walk row by row. Above the fog line, this property is carefully tended by vineyard manager Jim Barbour. In the glass, you'll taste silky, penetrating dark red and purple fruit that will show its potential for years to come. This new Cabernet comes from Napa Valley winemaking icon Peter Mondavi Sr. Only 450 cases made - hurry.
93 Points Wine Spectator: "Big and rich, yet graceful and elegant, this features a subtle mix of cedar, tobacco, dark berry, mocha and espresso notes. Fine-grained tannins mark the long finish. Drink now through 2022. 450 cases made.
Wine Enthusiast: "Peter Mondavi Sr. and his two sons, Peter Jr. and Marc have crafted a big, tannic and ageworthy wine. It’s packed with massive blackberry fruit, with the hard tannins and minerality common of Howell Mountain. Don’t even think of opening this before 2016; it should develop well beyond that"
