95 Points - limited
Discover this up-and-coming Sonoma Coast superstar while its still available! One of the top-rated California Chardonnays of the vintage.
95 Points Robert Parker: "From a well-known site favored by the Chardonnay cognoscenti of Northern California, the 2014 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard is a relatively small cuvée of 200 cases aged in the same manner as the other Chardonnays and fermented with indigenous yeasts. This site is at a 900-foot elevation and the vineyard planted with an Old Wente clone on the Goldridge sandy soils of the region. More tangerine, nectarine, lemon oil and citrus are found in this crisp, zesty Chardonnay that also moves toward tropical fruits on the palate. Sexy, full-bodied and a stunner, drink it over the next 5-7 years."
This beauty comes from Robbie Meyer, former assistant at Peter Michael winery. Super-small production and one of the best Chardonnays we've found in California!
A new great-value Napa Chardonnay from the folks at PlumpJack's Odette Estate. Limited.
An approachable fun interpretation to Napa Valley Chardonnay! Aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, and acacia flower. On the palate flavors of green apple, guava, and quince, backed by refreshing acidity and a pleasing finish. We are proud to produce Chardonnay that we feel is a great representation of the broader Napa AVA.
North is the new label from the Central Coast Rhone Master John Alban. Extremely limited.
95 Points Robert Parker: "The greatest Chardonnay yet from Alban, his 2013 Chardonnay had just been bottled prior to my visit. It certainly was showing no ill affects and offers sensational, Montrachet-like notes of ripe apple and orchard fruits, toasted nuts, mineral and cream. Full-bodied, ripe, voluptuous and layered, it's a shame more producers don't attempt this style and settle for a mid-weight, overly acidity, more innocuous expression of the variety. Drink this beautiful wine anytime over the coming decade...These Pinots and Chardonnays all come from John Alban's estate in the Edna Valley. Without a doubt, these 2013s are the greatest I've tasted from him."."
Limited new release from cult Chardonnay producer Mark Aubert.
94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Chardonnay UV-SL is made from two selections of Old Wente Chardonnay clones planted in classic Goldridge sandy soils. It exhibits the same greenish hue as its siblings, but is slightly more restrained and subdued. Notes of white currants, quince, poached pears, wet rocks and loamy soil nuances emerge from this terroir-driven Chardonnay. Drink 2015-2014...
...Mark Aubert is one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays. His offerings are all made like grand cru Burgundies with full malolactic, the use of French oak and lees stirring, but the purity of fruit, the textural dimensions, and the stunning singularity of these Chardonnays can only be matched by a handful of other Chardonnay producers in the world. He’s that good. Aubert’s 2012s, which I have enjoyed multiple times out of bottle since I purchased most of them, merit the scores I gave them last year."
