$230.00Merryvale 2015 "Profile" Proprietary Red, Napa Valley
Merryvale's top-of-the-line Proprietary Red now available. Limited.
95+ Points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc aged 26 months in new oak, the flagship Merryvale 2015 Profile is brilliant, and has slightly more concentration and richness than the 2014, yet isn't as sexy nor as approachable. Blackcurrants, burning embers/scorched earth, licorice, and hints of violets all flow to a full-bodied, concentrated, backward, tight Cabernet that needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years. It's going to have two decades or more of longevity."
Profile is a true representation of our hillside estate vineyard in Conn Valley. Blended from the best lots produced across 25 sloped and rocky acres, it reflects each vintage’s unique characteristics through the diversity of clonal selections, rootstocks, soils, elevation, orientation and microclimates on the property. The wine was vinified with classic Bordeaux techniques- wild yeast fermentation began after 5 days of cold soak and reached peak temperature of 90F. After 15-21 days of maceration, the wines were drained directly to barrel to complete spontaneous malolactic fermentation. We aged the wine for 23 months in 80% new French oak barrels. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration. In 2019, a warm but even growing season enabled the grapes to be picked at optimum ripeness. The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall and late soil moisture. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit teasing out great color, structure and soft tannins. All in all, exceptional fruit with bright acidity and ample texture has resulted in an amazing vintage.
