New release of Cakebread's rare and coveted Benchland Select Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - limited.

98 Points Jeb Dunnuck:
"Lots of plums, darker cherries, currants, tobacco, and graphite-like notes emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Suscol Springs, a gorgeously complex, medium to full-bodied, finesse-driven effort. A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, aged in 54% new oak, it has some background spicy wood notes, remarkable purity, and great tannins."

93 Points James Suckling:
"Blackberries and blackcurrants with some herbs, lemon and violets. Full-bodied with round tannins and a juicy finish. Beautiful fruit with savoriness and softness. Goes on for minutes."

Winery Notes:
"Fresh expressions of blackberry, boysenberry, and black cherry are balanced by fresh acidity and supported by a firm tannic structure. "We are happy to introduce our newest Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve wine, sourced exclusively from our Suscol Springs Estate Vineyard in southern Napa Valley. We grow grapes for our Suscol Springs Cabernet Sauvignon along the Suscol watershed in the cooler southern reaches of Napa Valley. Grapevines at our Suscol Springs estate are planted amid rocky outcroppings that overlook the valley floor. The effort to develop roots in these rocky soils creates a beneficial stress that causes vines to yield smaller berries of great concentration, balanced acidity, and supple tannins."

Cakebread Cellars has been on quite a qualitative roll of late and continues to demonstrate a Midas touch with all of its wines. Their first vintage was 1973, so they are coming up on the 43rd/44th harvest."
