The 2018 Olema Cabernet Sauvignon, made by Amici Cellars, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes hand selected off premier vineyards in Alexander Valley, Dry Creek and Rockpile in Sonoma County.
92 Points James Suckling: "Lots of black currant and blackberry aromas with hints of wet earth and spice cake. Medium body with a solid center palate of ripe fruit and fine tannins. Soft and silky. Delicious finish."
90 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County is outstanding and reveals a ruby/purple color, attractive notes of black cherry and blackberry fruits, plenty of tobacco leaf and graphite, medium body, and nicely integrated acidity. It’s a classic Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon that tastes like it cost 3-4 times the price. It will keep for a decade."
90 Points Robert Parker: "Blended of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot and 1% Petite Sirah aged 14 months in 50% new French oak, the Cabernet Sauvignon Olema is deep garnet-purple colored and features textbook cassis, warm plums ad blackberries notions with hints of cedar, sandalwood and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it bursts in the mouth with juicy, crunchy fruit, framed by soft tannins and a lively line, finishing on a refreshing minty note."
The Seventy Five Wine Co. "The Sum" Red Blend Napa Valley is a fantastic $20 discovery in California Cabernet from the Beckstoffers who are synonymous with managing some of Napa Valley's most famous vineyards. Don't miss!
This amazingly well endowed profoundly rich red wine must be smelled and tasted to be believed. The color is a rich, deep purple garnet and gives but a small hint as to what’s inside. The nose gives off soaring and wonderfully focused aromas of ripe stone fruit, vanilla, cherries, cedar cigar box, blackberries and cinnamon. In the mouth, there are layers upon layers of broad, sweet opulent fruit balanced by firm tannins, great acidity and oak. This wine truly showcases the potential of blending and is a must have.
96 Points - new release
Limited new release of a small-production gem of a Cabernet.
96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch might be the best Napa Valley Cabernet out there under $100. Based on 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, it offers a full-bodied, round, sexy style that can be difficult to find in a vintage like 2017. Deep purple-hued, with lots of blue fruits, candied orange, and violet notes, it builds beautifully on the palate, showing ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and a balanced, seamless mouthfeel. Count me impressed with this Cabernet, which comes close to rivaling the 2016. Drink bottles any time over the coming 15-20 years."
95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch from Tony Biagi's Patria label is dense, dark and explosive, with tremendous energy and textural richness. Plush fruit and silky, ripe tannins add to the wine's flamboyant personality. The 2017 is a big wine that is going to need time in barrel to shed some of its baby fat. Bright acids perk up the finish nicely. The 2017 has the potential to outshine the 2016, and that is saying a lot."
94 Points Robert Parker: "This vineyard sits between Dalla Valle and Ovid. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple colored and features notions of Morello cherries, wild blueberries and cassis with touches of red currant jelly, rose hip tea, dusty soil and bouquet garni. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing and elegantly styled, with soft, approachable tannins and a perfumed finish."
Patria is one of the newest cult wines we've discovered in Napa Valley. Between the pedigree behind the wine and the quality of what is in the bottle, this production is poised to be on the radar of collectors and connoisseurs alike. Anthony (Tony) Biagi, former Winemaker of Plumpjack wines and still consultant at Cade Winery, is the mastermind behind Patria. Bringing years of experience to the table, Tony crafts these rich, dense and chewy style of Cabernet Sauvignon that we've come to love over the years and the 2014 is another excellent vintage.
Introducing Orin Swift's delicious new red from California Locations "CA"!
Locations CA is made from the finest varietals and locations throughout California. California is a country unto itself and fittingly, an appropriate addition to the Locations family. Regions such as Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and the Sierra Foothills contributed to the wine. They come together to form yet another delicious red blend from this cult producer of The Prisoner red. A blend of Tempranillo, Barbera, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache. Try this great new release while it's still available.
Tasting Notes: Opaque with ruby accents, the wine is intensely perfumed with aromas of vivid berry, warm spice, plum, kirsch, lavender and subtle oak nuances. The entry is juicy and penetrating with rich flavors of ripe blackberry, racy currant and blueberry that generously coat the palate. Easy drinking, the finish is long and clean with just the right amount of polished tannins to keep the fruit in focus. Extremely well-balanced, this delicious red is ready to open and drink now.
Old Ghost represents the very best lots of Old Vine Zinfandel that Klinker-Brick Winery produces. This small-production Zin sells out quickly soon after each release. Try it while its still available!
For the past three vintages, Old Ghost has come from 90 plus-year-old vineyard blocks that typically produce tiny yields that are less than one ton per acre. Very keenly defined berry-like fruit gives great direction to the rich, sweetly oaked aromas of this tantalizing Zinfandel, and, even if it is biased to the ripeness of its provenance on the palate, it has admirable volume and depth. A streak of firming tannins provides a nice bit of grip and ensures several years of growth.
94 Points - fantastic buy
New Chardonnay release from Mount Eden's Domaine label.
94 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This more affordable cousin to the Mt. Eden brand is just as good, though different. It presents dairy aromas of brie cheese rind and yogurt but in a deliciously approachable way, with diced chives, caramelized pear and citronella elements. The palate shows tremendous energy, with lots of lime and lemon pith, but also a sour-cream richness."
The blend this year was 60% from Mount Eden's estate vines and 40% from Domaine Eden. The grapes were picked by hand and crushed within three hours of harvest, barrel-fermented in Burgundy barrels and aged on the lees for ten months. This wine is icy clean, vibrant and mineral in style with flavors of citrus zest, quince and spring flowers. For lovers of precision and delicacy in the expression of Chardonnay, this is it.
One of Oregon's most coveted producers of Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley's rare Reserve Pinot Noir.
94 Points Wine Spectator: "Polished and gracefully complex, with refined raspberry and strawberry flavors accented by toasty cinnamon and river stone notes, finishing with lithe tannins. Drink now through 2025."
Wine Enthusiast: "Dark, full, generous and ripe to the far edge of elegance, this powerful Pinot is saturated with black fruits, annoted with fennel, pepper, smoke and espresso, the rich and varied flavors rolling right through a lush midpalate and on into a gently fading finish. Retasted over 24-48 hours, it continued to evolve and develop additional nuances. A wine that can develop like a fine Burgundy to cellar for a decade or more."
New release of a California classic from the iconoclastic Sean Thackrey. The Pleiades might be the only super allocated, cult California wine for under $25, and it always sells out quickly.
92 points Wine Enthusiast "Editors' Choice": "How many ways can you say delicious? It’s impossible to exaggerate how appealing this light-hearted wine is. It’s vibrant with candied raspberries, pomegranates, orange zest, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon spice flavors, yet finishes dry and clean. The blend includes Sangiovese, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre."
If you try to find the exact varietals in this always-fantastic red blend, you might find yourself gazing up at the heavens for an answer, since you won't get one from the winemaker. From "One of California's most iconic and mystical winemakers," says Robert Parker, "Sean Thackrey has logged in 20 or more vintages of consistently stunning wines that perhaps say it all with the simple quote on his label: -Sean A. Thackrey, Vintner, Bolinas, California.
Sean Thackrey is one of the most influential and interesting people in the Bay Area Food and Wine community. Since 1980, he has been producing wines that are extraordinary: not only for quality and complexity, but also because he utilizes unique wine-making techniques, often drawing from historic, sometimes ancient, winemaking practices from all over the world. Sean sources grapes from many locations throughout California, and makes all his wines by hand (touching every grape) at his small Bolinas winery. Self-taught, and fully reliant on his intuition and senses, Sean is the antithesis of corporate wine-making. Indicative blend: Syrah, Sangiovese, Mourvedre, Barbera, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Viognier, among others. Each release is labeled with Roman numerals
A delicious new Chardonnay from Orin Swift Cellars.
91 Points Robert Parker: "Aged on the lees for eight months in 35% new French oak, the 2017 Chardonnay Mannequin opens with baked peaches, poached pears and brioche notes with hints of lemon curd, butterscotch and toasted almonds. Full-bodied, rich and decadently fruited with a pleasantly oily texture, it has seamless freshness and a very long, toasty finish
Producer notes: "Pale gold in the glass, opulent aromatics of Meyer lemon, vanilla crème, and sweet oak are complemented by subtle notes of jasmine, gardenias and caramel. The layered palate is replete with ripe stone fruit, melon, lemon curd and hints of roasted almond, grapefruit pith and white pepper. The finish is long and rich with a tapering young coconut flavor. Aged in 35% new French oak sur lie for 8 months. Alcohol 15%."

One of the best buys in California Cabernet we've found this year! From Rodney Strong, one of the pioneering wineries in Alexander Valley. Hurry!
97 points Decanter: "Wonderfully refined, sumptuous and complex. Notes of dense ripe red fruits, generous blackcurrants and warm spice with cedar wood, tobacco, dark plum and chocolate. Powerful and rich yet with real elegance and finesse."
Winemaker's Notes: "Rich, lush and structured, the Rodney Strong 2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon displays intense aromas of black currant, cassis and crushed violet. This wine is velvety with a smooth, lingering finish of herbal notes, vanilla and cocoa. Visitors to the winery often ask what "Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon means to us. It’s simple. Reserve means the winemaker’s careful blend of individual Cabernet Sauvignon lots made from time tested, meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best hillside vineyards in Alexander Valley and from our Cooley Ranch vineyards in the mountains north of Lake Sonoma. Select areas within each vineyard are hand harvested individually, fermented separately and aged in the finest French oak barrels."
This California Cabernet is made by one of the greatest Tuscan wineries: Antinori. Known for their Super Tuscans, this California estate wine lives up to their greatly deserved reputation. It is full bodied and rich with darker fruits and an earthy but smooth background. The finish is long and expressive.
San Francisco Chronicle Top 100 Wines of 2012! The new chapter from Tuscany's legendary Piero Antinori's Atlas Peak project has found its footing with a distinctive Antica Napa Cabernet.
95 Points James Suckling: "A full and juicy red with berry and mushroom character, round and juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and tension. Drink after 2020. 100% Estate-Grown – 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc."
94 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine shows its mountain provenance in meaty, grippy and gritty tannins and a broad expansive weight on the palate. But beneath its brawn is beauty and a rounded lushness of delicious drinkability, a mix of brambly blackberry, cherry, cassis and crushed rock. Let it sit in the glass over time or consider cellaring."
One of the best Napa Valley Sauvignon Blancs we've discovered.
The Altamura 2016 Sauvignon Blanc comes from the winery's 4-acre 18-year-old dry-farmed vineyard which sits at an altitude of 850 feet. The wine is fermented and aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months resulting in a wine of great depth and complexity, displaying the flavor and textural profile more like a white Bordeaux than a California Sauvignon Blanc. Very limited production of 500 cases.
A fantastic new discovery from Westwood Winery, one of our favorite new small-production wineries and winemaker Philippe Melka.
96 Point Wine Enthusiast *Editor's Choice*: "This red is brightly layered in fresh bluefruit, meat and garrigue, showing plenty of density and complexity. It has a wild character thats intriguing and energetic, with lasting threads of white and black pepper on the finish."
96 Points Decanter: "Winemaker Philippe Melka collaborated with Westwood Estate to create the inaugural release of this proprietary red. Melka blended in 55% Cabernet Sauvignon with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from Westwood’s biodynamically farmed Annadel Gap Vineyard. The prestigious, cool climate site is located between two mountains in Sonoma County, and is influenced by the Pacific, 20 miles to the west. Aromas of sweet, savory soil are primed with rich tones of blueberry preserves. Generous and a true extrovert, this red gives wide berth on the palate to creamy boysenberry and luscious, ripe plum. Red floral and graphite strike an accord with high-energy acidity. Finely grained tannins grip like a professional golfer, firm, but not tight – confident and seamless. Finishes with a snip of cayenne, sparking an alignment with cinnamon oak as the blue fruit turns darker."
BLEND: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre

A fantastic new Cabernet from Paso Robles! Wine Enthusiast #10 Wine of 2019!
95 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This bottling remains as impressive and delicious as it did upon debut two vintages ago. Aromas of black cherry, hickory smoke and vanilla cookie lead into a palate of brown sugar, sea salt, caramel and black-cherry foam, all framed by polished tannins and just enough acidity."
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon stems from an endless fascination with the soils and diverse sub-regions of Paso Robles, where exceptional wines are being made. It also tells the story of the Hope family’s long history in the region and how their pride and knowledge can be brought to life in a bottle of wine. Deep ruby in color, the 2018 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon expresses intense fragrances of black currants, ripe black cherries and blackberries with subtle notes of violets, mocha and dried spices. It’s a big, powerful, modern-styled wine with velvety tannins and heaps of juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, while nuances of cedar, clove and vanilla bean round out the long, smooth finish. It’s full bodied, rich and balanced by fresh acidity with a firm, polished tannin structure.
New release of Plumpjack's Oakville Estate Merlot - limited.
95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The Merlot is aromatically expressive and dense, a combination that is hugely appealing. Sage, mint, licorice, chocolate, lavender and black cherry jam run through this large-scaled, beautifully resonant Merlot. The interplay of elements here is really quite striking. There is quite a bit to look forward to. A dollop of Malbec rounds out the blend."
92 Points Robert Parker: "Containing a 4% splash of Malbec, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Merlot opens with notions of chocolate-covered cherries, plum preserves, spice cake and black pepper with hints of garrigue and wild sage. Full-bodied and boldly fruited in the mouth, the juicy black fruit is well framed by rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and spicy."

Another beautiful small-production Pinot Noir from Walter Hansel who continues to make a small amount of Pinot Noir down the road from Kistler, at unbelievably sane prices. As a result they always sell out quickly. Stock up while it's available.
93 Points Robert Parker: "Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2017 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane has a broody nose of sliced blueberry, black cherry and warm blackberries with cinnamon, nutmeg, tree bark and amaro accents plus crushed red cherries, raspberry jam, warm strawberries and dried flowers. Medium-bodied and silky, it fans out in the mouth with lush, concentrated fruits and tons and tons of spicy and earthy accents, with a firm frame of grainy tannins and very juicy acidity, finishing very long and layered. 750 cases produced....
...“Pricing is important to me,” says Steven Hansel. “In the marketplace, most people treat wine like a commodity—if people are willing to pay $100, that’s what it’s sold for—without any relation to what it actually costs to make. If we’re going to get young people to drink wine, they can’t pay those prices. I believe young people would like to enjoy wine, but they don’t have the resources. So, why are we raising prices? If we charge too much, they’ll buy tequila or something else—and then we’re all out of a job.” An astute observation. The Hansel wines, besides being delicious, provide excellent value. Bravo!"

Brand new white release from the famed winemaking duo of Shafer Vineyards Doug Shafer and Elias Fernandez and their new label Eight Four. Limited.
95 Points Wine Enthusiast "Editor's Choice": "This new project of Elias Fernandez and Doug Shafer, of Shafer Vineyards, continues to impress with this standout variety, sourced from Carneros, where the duo planted four acres of the variety a few years back. It's achingly pretty and substantive - exotic, complex and lingering, with sizzling acidity. Peach and honeysuckle stand out , while the texture is so sublime, you'll simply want more."
Winery Notes: The whole reason Eighty Four Wines exists is to explore what Napa Valley can produce with newcomer grape varieties. Albariño has been at the top of our list since the beginning. We love the clean acidity and the direct purity of the wines from Spain and wanted to see what the grape would do here. In 2012 we planted four acres in Napa Valley’s Carneros District and this is our first harvest. We gave it just four months on the lees in stainless steel barrels — no oak, no malolactic fermentation – so that the resulting wine would be fruity and refreshing. We’re pleased with the result and hope you are too.
Winemaker Elias Fernandez: “This is springtime in a bottle. The aromas and flavors are silky, sunny citrus blossom, white peach, honeysuckle, and dried apricot with a touch of lavender. Thanks to the lively acidity and austere minerality this abundance of fruit is clean and energetic from start to finish.

Limited new Zinfandel from Carlisle.
96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "A bigger, richer effort based on 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan from a site in the Russian River, the 2018 Zinfandel Papera Ranch offers a meaty, powerful bouquet of black cherries, red plums, Asian spices, and chocolate. This carries to a full-bodied, beautifully textured, opulent Zinfandel that has ripe tannins as well as the seamless, silky style of the vintage. It's beautifully done."
Robert Parker: "...From humble beginnings in 1998, Carlisle continues to go from strength to strength, growing from a solid philosophy of sourcing mainly Zinfandel and Rhône varieties from ancient vineyards in Sonoma and further afield. So, most of the vines used by Mike and Kendall Officer were planted from 1888 to 1934. From 2013, they have their own winery in which to create their magic—the old Robert Mueller winery in Russian River Valley."
An awesome new red blend from a boutique producer at the forefront of the Central Coast winemaking scene - only a few hundred cases were produced so try it while its still available!
92 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Beautiful Earth Red is an outstanding blend of 70% Syrah, 9% Mourvèdre, 8% Grenache, and the balance a mix of other varieties. New release from Cobb, one of California's most sough-after new Pinot producers. Only 150 cases made.
96 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2017 Pinot Noir Emmaline-Ann Vineyard is another stellar wine in this range. Bold, rich and explosive, the 2017 possesses tremendous depth and nuance. Black cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and sage infuse the 2017 with tons of character. The 2017 is marked by a real sense of vertical energy and statuesque beauty. The 50% whole clusters are not especially evident. What a wine!"
Planted by David Cobb in 1989, the Emmaline Ann Vineyard was one of the first vineyards on the far Sonoma Coast. Just three miles from Bodega Bay, at an elevation of 1,200 feet, Coastlands hangs high above the Pacific. It’s a challenging site, with tiny yields year after year, but it has also emerged as a benchmark for what can be achieved with Pinot Noir on the far coast. The 2012 Coastlands Vineyard Pinot was honored as “Top 100 Wines” by Jon Bonné and the San Francisco Chronicle, while the 2007 vintage named one of the “Top 10 Sonoma Coast Pinots” by Forbes.

The 2018 vintage of the Sojourn Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir showcases a number of exceptional coastal vineyards. Pinot noir from Sangiacomo and Rodgers Creek vineyards provide familiar lush textures and concentrated flavors. Campbell Ranch adds highlighted fruit characters. Riddle and Wohler vineyards add big ripe berry fruits and richness to this complex Pinot noir. The vintage shows bright aromas of crushed berries and dark cherries with notes of earth and forest floor, leading to lush textures and a long finish. A respected wine critic said it best "...a testament to the fact that an appellation blend in the hands of the right winemaker can be as good or better than a vineyard designate." This wine is a tremendous value at $39!
A fantastic red from Bedrock winemaker Morgan-Twain Peterson, one of the hottest young winemakers in California.
90 Points Robert Parker "Best Buy": "A Mediterranean blend of Zinfandel, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet, Syrah and assorted mixed blacks fermented with native yeasts and aged in primarily neutral containers (15% in new French oak), it is a California version of a high-class Cotes du Rhone. Lots of berry fruit intermixed with lavender, pepper and meaty black cherry and black currant flavors emerge from this satisfying, round, expansive, generous red. An outstanding, killer value that should provide pleasure over the next 1-2 years. If there is a better value in California wine, I would like to know about it."
....Morgan Twain-Peterson is one of the most impressive young winemakers I have ever met, and it’s not just because he grew up the son of a famous producer. Making wines at this level requires talent, passion, hard work and a great palate, none of which is easily inherited. Along with Mike Officer of Carlisle, Twain-Peterson is on a mission to rediscover what he calls California’s old-vine “heritage” vineyards. These historic sites planted by California’s early immigrants, often home to unknown field blends, remain some of the most fascinating vineyards in California. Officer and Twain-Peterson were tired of seeing these old sites gobbled up by industrial-scale wineries, so they decided to do something about it. Bravo."
A Brix26 exclusive, Pierre Morlet's "Grand Reserve" is a Premier Cru Champagne at a fraction of the price of its peers. Mostly distributed in France, very little has made it to the U.S. until now.
The Morlet family has been cultivating vineyards in Avenay-Val-d'Or since the early 1800's and, after four generations, Champagne Pierre Morlet et Fils has become synonymous in France for authentic and handcrafted Champagnes. Interestingly, Pierre Morlet's grandson Nicolas is currently a consulting winemaker at Napa Valley's cultish Peter Michael Winery.

94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "A smoking value, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley offers classic notes of blackcurrant and blackberry fruits intermixed with more earthy, tapenade, and olive-like aromas and flavors. It too is full-bodied, has remarkable purity, a seamless texture, and a beautiful finish. It tastes like it cost 2-3 times the price.”
Robert Parker: "...This is a thrilling set of wines from Hall. The estate favors a rich, extroverted style, yet all of these wines have distinct personalities and tons of sheer character. Meticulous viticulture followed by native yeast fermentations, slow, natural malos and minimal rackings are at the heart of the approach at Hall. The wines are aged in French oak (mostly Taransaud, 40-90% new) and are bottled with no fining or filtration. Readers who appreciate the more opulent side of Napa Valley will find much to admire here. Simply put, I was blown away by what I tasted."
Very limited Turley Zinfandel.
previous vintage 92 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the Turley Zinfandel Old Vines features exotic spice accents over a core of blueberry and boysenberry compote, crushed black cherries and berries with notes of cinnamon stick and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, it has loads of spicy black and blue fruits in the mouth with firm, ripe tannins to frame and juicy acidity, finishing long and very spicy.
91 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2017 Zinfandel Old Vines is rich, ample and fleshy. The heat of the year gave the Old Vines a little extra kick. Dried cherry, licorice and spice add an exotic flair to this super-expressive wine loaded with class and pedigree. "
...One of California's great wineries, Larry Turley's Turley Wine Cellars continues to play a critical role in safeguarding the Golden State's viticultural heritage, saving old, head-trained and sometimes own-rooted vineyards from destruction. With fully 29 different bottlings, Zinfandel (often complemented by small amounts of other co-planted varieties, such as Carignan and Grenache) is the standard-bearer here, though Turley also does a fantastic job with other varieties, most obviously Petite Syrah. Given how distinctive each of the single-vineyard bottlings is, it's tempting to suggest (though some will no doubt think it heretical) that Zinfandel might be the variety best adapted to expressing "terroir" in California."

Pahlmeyer Merlot Napa Valley is one of the finest Merlots produced in California. Highly collectible. Very limited.
96 Points Robert Parker: "There are few truly profound Merlots being made in California, but Pahlmeyer has consistently made some of the best. Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Merlot has a blockbuster nose of crushed blackberries, warm black plums, violets, cracked pepper and vanilla pod with hints of dark chocolate, licorice and bay leaves. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and with firm, velvety tannins, the palate is a hedonist’s playground with a spicy finish that just goes on and on. The very talented winemaker from Pahlmeyer’s sister winery in Sonoma—Bibiana Gonzalez Rave of Wayfarer—has recently been appointed as Chief Winemaker at Pahlmeyer. 2016 was her first vintage here."
94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Mostly estate fruit, the 2016 Merlot spent 22 months in primarily new French oak. Black cherries, smoked earth, graphite, dark chocolate, and licorice notes all emerge from this rich, full-bodied, concentrated Merlot that has subtle background oak but displays a supple, seamless balance style that’s a joy to drink."
The best selling rosé Champagne in the world, Laurent-Perrier is one of the few rosés still made by the saignée method. To emphasize this traditional technique, the Champagne is bottled in an embossed bottle that is a reproduction of those used in the late 17th century.
This salmon-pink rosé Champagne is truly remarkable for its highly expressive bouquet, stemming from very careful preservation of fresh fruit aromas during the winemaking. Made with 100% pinot noir using skin contact, also known as the saignée method, Laurent-Perrier's know-how and attention to quality produces a finely crafted rosé with both depth and freshness. It has become the benchmark for rosé Champagne around the world.
91 points Wine Spectator: "A big, beefy rosé. Very Pinot Noir-like, with leaf, cherry and earth notes matched to a firm, muscular structure. Has warmth and personality, with a lingering finish. Begs for herb-roasted chicken."

A great newcomer to the Napa Cabernet scene! Silver Oak has a vineyard next door and their neighbor to the west sells their fruit to Caymus: Grassi comes from prime Cab country. Mary Maher, vineyard manager for Harlan, and winemaker Robbie Meyer were instrumental in developing the vineyard and crafting a fantastic small-production Cabernet.
95 Points Antonio Galloni: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is the highlight in this range from Grassi. Fresh, vibrant and delineated, it is incredibly delicious, even in the early going. In this vintage, the Grassi Cabernet is especially refined, displaying a striking floral quality and fewer of the jam/chocolate flavors that were common just a few years ago. Gentler extractions than in the past have paid off, big time. A gorgeous wine."
Robert Parker: "Grassi is one of my favorite under the radar producers in Napa Valley. The estate excels with both Ribolla Gialla – a white grape native to Italy’s Friuli – and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best of all, the wines remain very fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the glass.”
Wine Spectator: "A Newcomer To Watch"
Thomas Brown Cab - 95 Points
New limited-release Cabernet from winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Limited.
95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made by superstar winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Post Parade is a ripe, decadent 2016 that makes the most of the vintage. Tons of ripe black raspberries and cassis flow to a wine that has full-bodied richness, a sumptuous, exuberant texture, no sensation of weight or heaviness, and terrific purity. This wine is all Cabernet Sauvignon and was brought up in 90% new French oak. It’s a pleasure-bent beauty to enjoy over the coming 15-20 years."
92+ Points Robert Parker: "Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 90% new French oak, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has a fragrant nose of crushed blueberries, crème de cassis and potpourri with hints of tree bark, espresso and olives. The palate is full, rich and concentrated with a velvety texture and tons of black fruit and earthy layers on the long, seductive finish. 510 cases produced."
After visiting Napa countless of times, three friends from Kentucky decided that it was time to make their own label. Enlisting the help of Frank and Kathy Dotzler (Outpost), and the most acclaimed winemaker in Napa today, Thomas Brown (Schrader, etc), they got everything they needed to make a killer bottle of wine. Post Parade is sourced from the Red Head Vineyard in Napa and the Tench Vineyard in Oakville. Thomas says that the Red Head vineyard gives structure, while the Tench Vineyard provides generosity, and we agree. Big, lush, and velvety smooth valley floor fruit mingles perfectly with the sweet tannic structure of Red Head’s hillside fruit.

Outpost is one of California's finest Zinfandel producers with winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown - limited.
Superstar winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown has completely bowled us over with the Outpost Howell Mountain Zinfandel, bursting as it is from the glass with aromas of lemon thyme, blueberry, fig newtons, dried blueberries, black cherry, all lilting above a palate with thrilling concentration. This is spectacular Zinfandel that simply knows exactly how good it is.
94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Zinfandel Howell Mountain offers a complex bouquet of plums, mulberries, blood orange, and incense to go with a medium to full-bodied, supple, elegant style on the palate. It doesn’t quite have the oomph of the 2016, but I suspect it will put on weight over the course of its élevage and should drink nicely for over a decade as well."
91 Points Robert Parker: "Already bottled, the 2017 Zinfandel (100% Zinfandel) was aged for 16 months in French oak, 34% new. Medium garnet-purple colored, it gives up flamboyant cherry pie, raspberry preserves and blueberry compote notes with touches of Chinese five spice, Sichuan pepper, dusty soil, dried flowers and underbrush. Full-bodied, relatively taut and chewy, it sports bold freshness on the palate, laden with spicy red and blue fruit preserves, finishing long and perfumed."

The Newton "Unfiltered" Chardonnay has just been released - always one of California's finest Chardonnays! Newton Vineyards is one of the great vineyard estates of Spring Mountain with neighbors like Cain, Pride Mountain and Paloma. Their highly-rated Unfiltered Chardonnay sells out every year.
93 Points Robert Parker: "Newton’s unfiltered Chardonnay has been a consistent winner since it was first launched in the early 1980s, when the fruit was coming from what is today John Kongsgaard’s Judge cuvée. Newton is still making this wine unfiltered, and the Chardonnay Unfiltered is rich and displays beautiful white peach, honeysuckle and tropical fruit, some nice, crisp wet pebble minerality in the background and a full-bodied mouthfeel. Deep, layered and complete, this is a big-time winner.....
...This cuvée has been one of California’s great classic Chardonnays for over two decades. It also has remarkable aging potential. In the early years, much of the credit went to some of the talented people who worked here, including John Kongsgaard, Luc Morlet and Michel Rolland."
Another fantastic release from Herman Story - tiny production.
previous vintage 92 Points Antoni Galloni (Vinous): "Deep vivid ruby. Powerful, spice- and smoke-accented dark berries, cherry preserves, vanilla and licorice on the deeply perfumed nose. In a rich, fleshy style but not lacking for energy, offering sweet black and blue fruit, floral pastille, mocha and bitter chocolate flavors that turn sweeter with air. Chewy tannins add grip to a long, smoky finish that emphatically repeats the blue fruit and vanilla notes. This big, generous wine was raised in 77% new French oak barrels."
Paso is a place to push new frontiers in the exploration of full-force avor. Herman Story's 2018 Milk & Honey Red Blend exposes the best of the promised land. Tempranillo was chosen as the base of this blend due to its similarity to one of Paso’s new keystone varietals, Grenache, while also giving a nod to the region’s stylistic similarities to Ribero del Duero. While Paso is an emerald city for some, it is also home to derelicts and grifters and ne'er–do–wells, for whom the artwork is an homage.
An amazing value
Bedrock Winery is producing some of the most exciting new releases we've tasted in California and the Bedrock 2018 Old Vines Zinfandel is a fantastic wine and unbeatable value.
93 Points Wine Spectator: "Old-school meets new in this Zinfandel, with just enough polish and plumpness to match the briary rusticity. Offers expressive black cherry, smoky anise and white pepper flavors. Drink now through 2024."
91 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2018 Zinfandel Old Vine is bright, floral and beautifully perfumed. Crushed red berries, flowers and sweet spice give the 2018 a very pretty sense of lift. In 2018, the Old Vine is especially gracious and light on its feet. The blend incorporates fruit from a number of top sites, including Bedrock, Teldeschi, Esola, Pagani, Papera, Evangelho and Pato."
A blend of legendary Sonoma County vineyards dating back to the 1880s, Morgon-Peterson's Old Vines zin makes a strong case for the best overall Zinfandel available today. It delivers the exuberance we expect of this generous grape, but transcends any superficial tendencies with a layer or three of earth, tannin, baking spices, and tip-top French oak treatment. A Zin that benefits from a few years in the cellar to develop gravitas and wow factor, but truly drinks great right out of the gates. Bedrock Zinfandels are the best in the business (the single vineyard bottlings are now uber-allocated). This is your chance to drink Bedrock Zin all the time. Delicious but limited - hurry.

A fantastic new Cabernet-based blend from Laird. A must-try.
92 Points Wine Spectator: "A ripe and lush style, with waves of cassis, plum sauce and açaí berry rolling through, coated with mocha and sweet spice notes and leading to a very polished finish. For the hedonist crowd. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes."
