A fantastic Rhone Blend from Villa Creek cellars, sourced from Saxum's james Berry vineyard. Limited.
97 Points Jeb Dunnuck:"Looking at the barrel sample, the 2019 High Road James Berry Vineyard sports a dense purple color to go with terrific aromatics of dark fruits, ground pepper, game, and liquid violets. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, it has freshness, purity, and loads of class...I continue to love the wines from JoAnn and Cris Cherry, and these latest 2019s are brilliant across the board. These are pure Paso Robles goodness and deliver incredible charm and pleasure while always staying balanced and elegant."
96 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented black/blue fruit and floral oil aromas pick up exotic spice and pipe tobacco nuances with air. Fleshy, juicy and impressively concentrated, offering ripe boysenberry, black raspberry, cherry liqueur and violet pastille flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Densely packed yet energetic as well, finishing with resonating florality, gently gripping tannins and superb persistence."
Villa Creek Cellars grew from the intent by Cris and JoAnn Cherry to make a house wine for their restaurant of the same name. Now they produce some of the most highly regarded, and rated, wines in Paso Robles. Avenger is the red blend that launched Villa Creek Cellars in 2001. Syrah from G2 Vineyard is the backbone of this wine. G2 is a stone’s throw from James Berry Vineyard in the Willow Creek district of the west hills of Paso Robles.
95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Inky violet. Highly perfumed, mineral-accented black/blue fruit liqueur, incense and potpourri scents take on exotic spice and licorice notes with aeration. Deeply concentrated but energetic as well, offering sappy blueberry, cassis, candied violet and fruitcake flavors that are sharpened by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. The spicy note drives an impressively long, energetic finish, and chewy tannins provide shape and firming grip."
