Staglin Family produces one of Napa Valley's most collectible Cabernets. Very limited.
98 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Still showing brilliantly (and I don't expect that to change), the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has the ripe, expansive, sexy style of the vintage front and center. Loads of crème de cassis, blueberries, crushed violets, and spice all soar from this beauty, which is powerful and rich, yet perfectly balanced. At the same quality level as the 2013, it's nevertheless in a much more approachable, flamboyant style. Drink it any time over the coming two decades or more. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous wine."
96 Points Robert Parker: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a decadent nose of warm blackcurrants, blackberry preserves and ripe black plums plus suggestions of chocolate box, baking spices, fertile loam and dried Mediterranean herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with expressive black fruits and savory nuances. With a solid structure of chewy tannins and balanced freshness, it finishes long and earthy. This was tasted as a barrel sample."
Winemaker Fredrik Johansson has done a fabulous job with these new releases. The Staglin wines are of note this year and point to an estate that may finally be finding a consistently high level."
New release of Caymus' 2017 Cabernet now available! Caymus makes one of Napa Valley's most popular Cabernet Sauvignons and the 2017 is another stellar wine.
previous vintage 94 Points Robert Parker: "The Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years."
Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a “Napa Valley” and the venerable “Special Selection”. Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time” – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla. The new Caymus 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley release is one of the best cabs in years!
