Limited new release from Shafer!
96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "I’ve consistently loved the Relentless cuvée from this team, which is always from a single vineyard and is Syrah-dominated, with about 10% Petite Sirah in the blend. The 2016 Relentless is sensational. Dense purple-hued with a sweet bouquet of jammy blackberries, ground pepper, charcoal, and some smoky, meaty notes, it’s a full-bodied, powerful, yet plush, even elegant Syrah that does everything right. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years."
95 Points Antonio Galloni: "The 2016 Relentless is every bit as stellar as it was last year. Silky, nuanced and beautifully persistent in the glass, the 2016 is super-refined. A natural tendency towards extroverted power is nicely tempered in this super-polished and highly nuanced Syrah/Petite Sirah blend from Shafer."
Robert Parker: "...Year in year out, this is one of the superstar wineries, not only in Napa Valley and all of California, but in the entire world. It’s the product of visionary John Shafer, who started in 1978 after a successful corporate career. He had the foresight and visionary genius to believe in the microclimates and soils of Stags Leap of the southern Napa Valley. When his son Doug came on board with their brilliant winemaker and Mr. Everything, Elias Fernandez, things soared in quality and diversity. Today, this is a winery that does everything about as perfect as can be."
Brand new white release from the famed winemaking duo of Shafer Vineyards Doug Shafer and Elias Fernandez and their new label Eight Four. Limited.
95 Points Wine Enthusiast "Editor's Choice": "This new project of Elias Fernandez and Doug Shafer, of Shafer Vineyards, continues to impress with this standout variety, sourced from Carneros, where the duo planted four acres of the variety a few years back. It's achingly pretty and substantive - exotic, complex and lingering, with sizzling acidity. Peach and honeysuckle stand out , while the texture is so sublime, you'll simply want more."
Winery Notes: The whole reason Eighty Four Wines exists is to explore what Napa Valley can produce with newcomer grape varieties. Albariño has been at the top of our list since the beginning. We love the clean acidity and the direct purity of the wines from Spain and wanted to see what the grape would do here. In 2012 we planted four acres in Napa Valley’s Carneros District and this is our first harvest. We gave it just four months on the lees in stainless steel barrels — no oak, no malolactic fermentation – so that the resulting wine would be fruity and refreshing. We’re pleased with the result and hope you are too.
Winemaker Elias Fernandez: “This is springtime in a bottle. The aromas and flavors are silky, sunny citrus blossom, white peach, honeysuckle, and dried apricot with a touch of lavender. Thanks to the lively acidity and austere minerality this abundance of fruit is clean and energetic from start to finish.

Shafer's Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay is one of California's finest examples of this varietal - don't miss it while it's available.
95 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This robust, full-bodied white holds its weight and pedigree remarkably well, offering an intensely flavored, richly layered experience that seamlessly provides freshness along the way. Apple, cinnamon and nutmeg are complemented by toasted oak and lasting structure."
94 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a perennially impressive wine, floral in a heady perfume of white roses. Fresh and fleshy, the expansive palate offers concentrated flavors of kiwi and pineapple. The wine was largely fermented in oak, then aged just over a year in French oak (75% new). It holds the oak well, ending bright in juicy acidity."
previous vintage 93 Points Robert Parker: "First, their non-malolactic Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch comes from a cool-climate vineyard in Carneros. This is aged in 75% oak casks and 25% stainless steel, which seems to be the perfect marriage for showcasing this wine’s rich fruit. The wine has loads of tangerine oil, citrus blossom, a hint of apples and orange marmalade. The oak is subtle, the wine medium to full-bodied, pure and rich. (This is the official tasting note, but I shared two bottles with some friends of mine at the casual Market restaurant in St. Helena, and it was a huge hit.)"
“…one of the best non-malolactic, barrel-fermented Chardonnays in California …”
