96 Points Parker
Another stunning Ramey Cabernet - Very Limited.
96 Points Robert Parker: "From a vineyard in the Oakville Corridor, just below Dalla Valle, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum (950 cases) is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc. It boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of licorice, smoked meats, camphor, graphite and oodles of crème de cassis and coffee beans. Full-bodied with sweet tannin and a dramatic, ostentatious personality, it should drink well for 15-20 years...
...David Ramey, who is one of the veterans of high-quality winemaking on California’s North Coast, worked in France and at some of the top Napa wineries (Rudd and Dominus) before settling in Healdsburg in Sonoma Valley. He continues to make Chardonnay in a Burgundian style with full malolactic fermentation, and now produces four single-vineyard Chardonnays as well as two generic efforts from the Russian River and Sonoma Coast."
David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2015 Claret Napa Valley is a great introduction.
90 Points Wine Spectator: " Pure, clean and graceful, this is very rich and well-structured, with a deep, layered core of currant, blackberry, mocha and underbrush, ending with a long, lingering aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2027."
Claret is an English word meaning wine from Bordeaux. Ramey uses it to signify a blend of the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Ramey Claret Napa Valley is a blend from the Jericho Canyon Vineyard and Diamond Mountain vineyard.
David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a great introduction.
93 Points Aontonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as appealing today as it was last year. Supple, open-knit and expressive, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Floral and savory notes add an attractive upper register in this mid-weight, juicy 2014. Bright red stone fruit, plum and savory notes abound on the finish. This is a gorgeous Napa Valley Cabernet from David Ramey that shows just how appealing 2014 can be."
91 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon delivers notes of ripe blackberries, black cherries and garrigue with hints of Provence herbs and cigar box. The medium-bodied palate offers cassis in the mouth with good core fruit, firm, grainy tannnins and good length. This is textbook Napa Cab, done well...
...David Ramey has long had one of the most impressive resumes for any California winemaker. He worked at Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux and for Christian Moueix at Dominus. He also consulted and worked for a number of high end Napa Valley wineries. Of course, his first love is Ramey Wine Cellars, and he has built an extensive empire of Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and more recently Syrahs as well as a tiny quantity of Pinot Noir (talk about going to the dark side)."
Ramey Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay is consistently one of California's finest Chardonnays. Second-tier doesn't cut it for Ramey fruit sources. Larry Hyde's gem of a property has been recognized on labels from Marcassin, Paul Hobbs and Kistler. Unbelievably nuanced for a full-throttle Chardonnay, this balances California flair with restraint and grip.
93 Points Robert Parker: "The 2014 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard offers subtle honeyed peach, pineapple and passion fruit notes with touches of baking bread and cashews. The palate delivers the goods, packed with rich tropical fruit characters and a toasty/cedary undercurrent, framed by lively acidity and finishing long, with some spices coming through."
93 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Bright, light yellow. Brisk, racy aromas of lemon curd, anise and minerals. Still tightly wound and a bit oaky but already shows a lovely combination of lemony lift, glyceral texture and butterscotch richness."
