The Pride Mountain Viognier is a luscious wine exudes fragrances of peach, lemon zest, nectarine, gardenia and dried rose petal. The palate is round and balanced, possessing a delightful tension between the unctuous classically-viognier character upfront and a refreshing tingly verve on the long finish.
Farming viognier is no simple task. It is more susceptible than other grape varieties to vineyard woes including frost damage, springtime fungus, poor set and sunburn. To achieve a balanced vine canopy, we cane prune in a way unique to our viognier vines. Our vineyard crew spends much more time in each acre of viognier than they do in any acre of our cabernet sauvignon. The fruits of such labor in 2019 is a wine with gorgeous synergy between its various aromatic and structural components. The 2019 Viognier was fermented in entirely neutral French oak barrels (5 - 10 years old) and then aged on its lees, with periodic battonage, for four months prior to bottling on Valentine’s Day of 2020.
4 Kilos was started in 2006 by two friends on Mallorca, Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero, who had been working in other wineries and wanted to do their own thing. We're excited to have the small-production wines in the U.S. for the first time!
Francesc is a Mallorcan winemaker known for working with native grape varieties. His partner Sergio Caballero is a musician and director of the Sonar music festival. Together they started 4 Kilos in 2006, garagiste-style, vinifying their first vintage in milk refrigeration units on a sheep farm (Mallorca has lots of these). By the next year they were able to ‘upgrade’ another old sheep farm into a winery to make their line-up of 3 wines, all from indigenous varieties grown organically by small farmers. This is a very small operation trying to work with traditional lesser known local grapes, fermenting naturally, and avoiding any additives including sulfur.
4kilos 2019 “Motor Blanc” is 100% Callet, a grape native to the island; aged three months in clay vats and two months in stainless steel, this is a natural wine that offers fresh, lightly funky aromas and tart strawberry fruit that blended with hints of soil and fresh herbs

To capture this shade along with the wine's crisp acidity and bold berry flavors, they lightly press the fresh Pinot Noir juice from the whole clusters, then allow it a brief love affair with spicy French oak barrels during and after fermentation. Oeil-de-perdrix--French for "eye of the partridge"--is a traditional term for this wine's seductive, jewel-like color. Enjoy it well chilled with raw or grilled seafood, or on its own as a warm-weather refresher.
Tasting notes: Vibrant rose-salmon color. Pronounced aromas of ripe strawberry and green apple are supported by an undertone of light oak. The flavors are lively with cranberry and citrus zest notes. The full, lush mouthfeel is balanced by a brisk acidity and mineral elements, leading to a long-lasting finish..
