Post & Beam is an outstanding value in Napa Valley Cabernet from the folks at Far Niente. Highly recommended.
Named for the simple yet elegant barns that dot the American landscape as an enduring reminder of our history, Post & Beam represents craftsmanship, tradition, legacy, and purity. There’s nothing unnecessary or overly complicated about a post and beam barn. It just works beautifully. The same can be said for our wines. They are simple, elegant, pure expressions of each grape in its finest form.
Tasting Notes: "The Post & Beam 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon provides pure, fresh plum, violet and sage aromas lead to a round palate layered with ripe plum, dark berry and black currant flavors. Leather, cedar and dried herb accents, along with whispers of vanilla and oak provide depth, while lithe acidity keeps the wine lifted, balanced and bright. Supple tannins feel like suede-velvet and carry the elegant fruit and spice flavors into a finish that goes on and on. This debut vintage is pure finesse.

95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Including small amounts of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec, the Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon sports a deep purple color as well as classic Cabernet notes of blackcurrants, new leather, tobacco leaf, flowers, and lead pencil. Beautifully done on the palate and made in a seamless, elegant style, it has a kiss of Pauillac in its nicely integrated acidity, ripe, building tannins, a touch of earthiness, and a great finish. It's not a blockbuster, just seamless and elegant, with a thrilling character. It should keep for 20+ years."

A great newcomer to the Napa Cabernet scene! Silver Oak has a vineyard next door and their neighbor to the west sells their fruit to Caymus: Grassi comes from prime Cab country. Mary Maher, vineyard manager for Harlan, and winemaker Robbie Meyer were instrumental in developing the vineyard and crafting a fantastic small-production Cabernet.
95 Points Antonio Galloni: "The Grassi Cabernet Sauvignon is the highlight in this range from Grassi. Fresh, vibrant and delineated, it is incredibly delicious, even in the early going. In this vintage, the Grassi Cabernet is especially refined, displaying a striking floral quality and fewer of the jam/chocolate flavors that were common just a few years ago. Gentler extractions than in the past have paid off, big time. A gorgeous wine."
Robert Parker: "Grassi is one of my favorite under the radar producers in Napa Valley. The estate excels with both Ribolla Gialla – a white grape native to Italy’s Friuli – and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best of all, the wines remain very fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the glass.”

One of the top Napa Cabernets of the vintage, the Groth Reserve Cab is a classic. Delicious now but a great cellar candidate as well. Limited.
94 Points James Suckling: "This is really beautiful with raspberry, blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors. Its full-to medium-bodied with firm, integrated tannins and a beautiful finish. Shows lots of finesse and polish in the texture. Some may find it a little austere, but it should soften in a year or two. Better after 2021."
93 Points Wine Spectator: "Features overt cherry, plum and raspberry fruit flavors, gilded with anise and mesquite hints. Maintains good energy thanks to fresh acidity through the finish, revealing a long echo of savory and iron. Inviting now, but suitable for cellaring. Best from 2021 through 2033."
