96+ Points Antonio Galloni: "As great as the 2010 is, the 2011 isn’t too far behind. Silky, gracious tannins form the backbone in a refined, beautifully balanced Grand Vin long on class. Sweet, perfumed and utterly impeccable throughout, the 2011 is a Grand Vin simply superb. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out beautifully, showing remarkable depth for the year. The 2011 is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The higher percentage of Merlot is typical of a lot of blends in 2011."
"...Inspired by the great classic Napa Valley Cabernets of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, Lou Kapcsandy set out to recapture that glory when he and his family purchased the State Lane Vineyard in Yountville in 2000. State Lane had previously been a source of fruit for Beringer’s State Lane and Private Reserve Cabernet bottlings. The vineyard was destroyed by phylloxera in 1999 and replanted in 2001 by Helen Turley and John Wetlaufer. Kapcsandy is a family affair, with Lou’s son Louis and wife Bobbi both deeply involved in the day to day running of the winery. Denis Malbec is the consulting oenologist."

It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years."
Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a “Napa Valley” and the venerable “Special Selection”. Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time” – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla.
