Ellen Redding Pinot Noir is a gorgeous-drinking Pinot Noir from Patrick McNeil (Paydirt). A tiny 270 cases produced.

The 2019 Ellen Redding Pinot Noir is sourced from two sites: Azaya Vineyard in Hicks Valley and the Chileno Valley Vineyard. Azaya is close to the geographical center of Marin County, just 5 miles NE of Nicasio, California. It is a perfectly situated south-facing slope planted to clones 667, 777, 828, and 115 by the Marin County veteran Mark Pasternak / Dan Goldfield duo. Tiny berries and high natural acidity are the hallmark of this site, and result in incredible concentration and balance. Chileno Valley Vineyard sits on the bench land just above Chileno Valley- 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It is windswept-farming-on-the-edge at its finest, and also managed by Mark Pasternak. Dark, brambly, exotic, mixed berry pie, nettle. Surprising depth and concentration from such a cool site; high natural acidity is evident and provides a clean balance and finish.

Story: "This wine is a loving ode to my grandparents and the years leading up to their wedding at St. Mary’s Church in Nicasio, California. Joseph Dennis McNeil courted Ellen Josephine Redding via the U.S. Postal Service from 1925 to 1928. The envelopes began as fully addressed-musings to Ellen Redding at 309 Fifth Avenue in San Rafael, California. The envelopes were so colorful and frequent that the addressee eventually read as simply “Ellen, San Rafael”. More than 50 different envelopes exist, although each of the letters contained inside remain strictly between Jospeh and Ellen. Each new vintage and colorful envelope tells their story."
