New release of one of Napa's iconic cabernets now available!
94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years."
Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a “Napa Valley” and the venerable “Special Selection”. Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time” – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla.
A deliciously crisp rose from Belle Glos, a perfect California version that will transport you to summer in the South of France.
To capture this shade along with the wine's crisp acidity and bold berry flavors, they lightly press the fresh Pinot Noir juice from the whole clusters, then allow it a brief love affair with spicy French oak barrels during and after fermentation. Oeil-de-perdrix--French for "eye of the partridge"--is a traditional term for this wine's seductive, jewel-like color. Enjoy it well chilled with raw or grilled seafood, or on its own as a warm-weather refresher.
Tasting notes: Vibrant rose-salmon color. Pronounced aromas of ripe strawberry and green apple are supported by an undertone of light oak. The flavors are lively with cranberry and citrus zest notes. The full, lush mouthfeel is balanced by a brisk acidity and mineral elements, leading to a long-lasting finish..
A fantastic value in Pinot Noir from Caymus!
Belle Glos is a partnership between Chuck Wagner and his son, winemaker Joseph Wagner. The 2014 'Meiomi' Pinot Noir Sonome Coast is a delicious blend from their cool Sonoma Coast vineyards. A very rich & complex, fruit-forward stye Pinot that would go as well with steak as it would salmon dishes. One of the best $20 California Pinots we've tasted.
previous vintage 92 Points Wine Spectator "Smart Buy": "Dark and rich, showing toasty mocha oak flavors, with a beam of wild berry, raspberry, cola, vanilla and spice. Long on the finish. Drink now through 2020."
Meiomi (May-OH-mee) means "Coast" in the language of the native Wappo Indian tribe who traditionally occupied a mountainous area of northern California, including the Russian River and part of Napa Valley, symbolizing the origin of this Pinot Noir.
New release from the Caymus family! Jenny Wagner, daughter of Caymus' Chuck Wagner, has introduced this outstanding Sauvignon Blanc from her new label Emmolo.
Continuing the legacy of the Wagner Family's other profound wine ventures such as Caymus, Belle Glos, and Conundrum, Jenny Wagner takes the reins of Emmolo Winery and is making a hit with these new releases! Her family has a long-standing history in Napa Valley beginning with her great-grandfather, Italian immigrant, Salvatore Emmolo, who planted grapevines and started a grapevine rootstock nursery in Rutherford in the 1920’s. His son, and Jenny's grandfather, Frank Emmolo, ran Emmolo Nursery and built a strong following amongst Napa Valley grapegrowers - becoming the leading supplier to Napa Valley vintners for five decades.
This is an elegant and refined style of Sauvignon Blanc that is subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity. On the nose, aromas of citrus, iron, wet stone and a hint of D’Anjou pear tempt your senses, while a crisp lightness, balanced acidity and underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest please the palate. The significant minerality and soft body rounds out the wine. This Sauvignon Blanc was made to pair with food, yet is very versatile. Bottled using a Guala twist top in lieu of cork.
