Alban 2012 Patrina Syrah

Brix26

 94 Points Parker

Brand new Syrah release from John Alban - limited.

94 Points Robert Parker:  "One of the best entry-level wines out there is John's 2012 Syrah Patrina, and it competes with many top cuvees.  All Syrah in 2012 and showing the house style perfectly, it has a saturated inky color to go with a forward, sexy, meaty and full-bodied array of creme de cassis, licorice, chocolate and licorice. Showing how good 2012 was for this estate, it's a rock-star wine to enjoy while you wait for his 2010s and 2011s to come around...I had a great visit with John Alban, whose estate is located at the southern end of the Edna Valley and in one of the coolest AVAs in California. Despite this, he makes some of the most concentrated, rich and age-worthy reds and whites from the entire state."

Brix26 Inside Scoop:  Intermittently, Alban Vineyards produced a 'Central Coast Syrah' which was never predictable in either when it was made or its quantity but was always tremendously popular.  With each sporadic release, it became undeniable that lots of people wanted this wine. Likewise, it became painfully clear to Alban that without control of the vineyards from which this wine would derive, nothing about it would ever be reliable.  In 2005, Alban discontinued purchasing grapes for the Central Coast Syrah to develop his own vineyards and the  2010 is the third vintage of this new wine, Alban 'Patrina' Syrah.
