Limited new release from Jonata, one of Santa Barbara's most exclusive producers and winemaker Matt Dees.
97 Points Robert Parker: "Deeper and richer, the 2012 La Sangre de Jonata is an incredible looking blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier that’s aging in just 35% new French oak. Seeing 10% whole clusters, it’s another serious, savory vintage of this cuvee that has layers of dark fruits, ground pepper, coffee bean, chocolate and hints of iron in its full-bodied, incredibly concentrated, yet balanced and layered personality. While there’s massive tannin here, they stay nicely integrated, and there’s beautiful freshness and purity on the finish as well. It will benefit from 2-4 years in the cellar and have 15-20 years of overall longevity. This was another stacked lineup by the team at Jonata, and this is always one of my favorite tastings. However, due to the mouth-damaging levels of tannin and structure these wines show in their youth, this is one tasting I have to schedule at the end of day!

Amazing blend                           Â
Limited new release from Jonata, one of Santa Barbara's most exclusive producers and winemaker Matt Dees.
94+ Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Always a kitchen sink blend, the 2017 Todos checks in as 44% Syrah, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petite Sirah, and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It's always a smoking value. Certainly, the quality is top-notch. Blackberries, smoked plums, graphite, ground pepper, and crushed rock-like minerality all emerge from this beautifully balanced, elegant, yet concentrated and fleshy red that has the class, as well as the structure, to keep for over a decade. It should be even better this time next year...The 2017s from the team at Jonata are terrific across the board with all the wines showing classic, balanced characters. Readers on a budget shouldn’t miss the Todos cuvée, which is always a kitchen sink blend (it’s normally Syrah heavy) of just about every varieties Jonata works with. It’s a year in, year out, stunning wine that sells for half of what the top cuvées go for.
93 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2017 Todos is superb, especially considering it is Jonata's entry-level wine. Jonata always presents Todos in the middle of their range, and yet the wine never really suffers in any comparison next to its siblings, and that might be the single most meaningful thing I can say about it. In 2017, Todos is beautifully perfumed and silky, with lovely red fruit character that comes through nicely. Floral accents add brightness."

97 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated cuvée is the Jonata El Desafio De Jonata, which includes 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It's another inky colored wine from this team and offers a brilliant bouquet of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, cedar, bay leaf, and crushed rocks. Beautifully concentrated and balanced, with a Bordeaux-like structure and regal style, it's a magical Cabernet Sauvignon that's going to benefit from 7-8 years of bottle age yet keep for 20-30 years."
97 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The Jonata El Desafio de Jonata is another positively stellar wine in this range. Two thousand seventeen is one of the few years in which Cabernet is so dominant. Rich and explosive, with tremendous vertical thrust, the 2017 oozes with class and intensity. Crème de cassis, new leather, licorice, sweet spice and menthol are some of the many notes that build as this statuesque, alluring wine shows off its pedigree. In 2017, the blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Wow...!"

97+ Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the 2019 La Sangre De Jonata (91% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, and 3% Viognier) sports a similar dense purple hue as well as stunning blueberry and blackberry fruits intermixed with awesome graphite, ground pepper, liquid violet, and iron-like aromas and flavors. Stunningly pure, full-bodied, and concentrated, it has the more focused, structured style of this estate front and center as well as incredible purity and a finish that won't quit. This is brilliant all the way, and while it has some appeal today, it will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have two decades of overall longevity."
