St Cosme is one of the Rhone Valley's hot up-and-coming producers. The fantastic "Les Deux Albion" is basically declassified Gigondas at a fraction of the price. Dont miss!
91 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This Syrah-dominant blend augmented by Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Clairette is sourced from three Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages communes of Plan de Dieu Saint Maurice and Cairanne. Vinified in wooden vats and matured in concrete, it offers decadent cassis and black-plum flavors accented by tar, charred sage and licorice. Supple and piercing, the wine is ready now but will hold through 2028."
90 Points Robert Parker: "Mainly Grenache, with smaller portions of Mourvèdre and Syrah, the St. Cosme 2018 Cotes du Rhone Les Deux Albions matured in wooden and concrete vats. Black cherries and blueberries mark the nose, picking up hints of garrigue and black olives along the way. Medium to full-bodied, plush and expansive, it turns almost velvety on the finish. It's another terrific bargain from Barruol."

The top Cabernet from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, the Cask 23 is their most limited wine.
96 Points Robert Parker: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cask 23 Estate-Grown is a big-time winner with great fruit, terrific texture, full body, sensational purity and plenty of blue and black fruits interwoven. The amazing thing about all of these wines is that no oak shows through whatsoever, although I suspect the percentage of new oak is relatively high. That’s an example of the extravagance and richness of the fruit that the winery is achieving. Again, purity, harmony, complexity and individuality are hallmarks of these wines. Drink this 2014 Cask 23 over the next 25 years."

The Stag's Leap FAY Cabernet Sauvignon is one of Napa Valley's most sought-after Cabernets. Limited.
96 Points Robert Parker: "A barrel sample blended of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, the Stag's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon Fay Vineyard is deep purple-black in color and begins just a tad broody, giving way to earth-laced blackcurrants, black cherries and warm plums plus suggestions of unsmoked cigars, charcuterie and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is completely coated with energetic black fruits and savory layers, framed by firm, ripe tannins and background freshness, finishing long and mineral laced."

A fantastic buy in Napa Valley Cabernet from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.
The Stag's Leap ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon opens with intriguing plum, ripe fig and allspice aromas. On the palate, the wine offers flavors of ripe blackberry, chocolate-covered cherry and hints of cedar. There’s a nice palate weight and texture with ample, yet fine-grained tannins and a soft finish.
This is part of Stag's Leap's Napa Valley Collection. Named for the Greek goddess of the hunt to honor the winery's quest for the best grapes from the Napa Valley with which to blend with the winery's own fruit to create a Cab that is quintessentially Napa Valley. This Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon offers pleasing aromas of black cherries, red plums, violets, nutmeg and sandalwood along with a hint of dried herbs. The cherry and plum notes carry over onto the palate and combine with ripe, mixed berries. The wine has a smooth, supple entry with good mid-palate structure with fine-grained tannins that lead to a lingering berry-cherry finish.

Fantastic White Blend!
A fantastic White Blend from California's Central Coast. Limited.
92 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Stolpman's Roussanne L'Avion is laced with apricot jam, chamomile, orange peel, hazelnut and honeysuckle. Oily yet also light on its feet, the Avion is all class. As always, the Stolpman Roussanne includes a good bit of Chardonnay, 10% in this vintage."
Stolpman Vineyard’s 12 acres of Roussanne, the primary varietal of this wine, represents a significant portion of the 165 total planted acres in all of California. The proprietary name L’Avion (The Airplane in French) refers to the long narrow stretch of land where the Roussanne is grown, once used as an air strip by local ranchers. The 2011 Stolpman L’Avion is a blend of 90% Roussanne and 10% Viognier. The wine shows a rich soft mouth feel with flavors of tropical fruit and a bouquet of honeysuckleckle.

Stuhlmuller Vineyards is located at the southern edge of the Alexander Valley, where it converges with two other highly regarded Sonoma County appellations, Chalk Hill and the Russian River Valley. A great new small-production discovery for us, we highly recommend this Cabernet.
91 Points Wine Spectator: "Firm, concentrated and well-balanced, offering dense, chewy cedary currant, anise, spice and nutmeg notes that are full-bodied and tannic, with touches of herb and spice."
Boasting the traditional and beautiful elements of a great Alexander Valley Cabernet, the Stuhlmuller 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of deep, black cherries, currants and sage. On the palate, age-worthy tannins add structure and definition to the rich, dark berry flavors with a balanced natural acidity providing length and freshness.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon (94%) and Petit Verdot (6%) grapes grown on seven different vineyard blocks throughout our 150-acre estate. Seven individual fermentations were done, using a mix of open-top tanks and closed-top tanks where the must was pumped over. The wine was racked to 40% new French oak barrels, and each lot was fermented and aged separately for 10 months before blending, and then barrel aged for a total of 18 months.

Robert Parker: "The Stuhlmuller Estate is a classic California Chardonnay showing notes of white peach, a bit of honey, and background oak, it is medium to full-bodied and possesses some interesting minerality. Pure and impeccably well-made, it is a delicious, full-throttle Maconnais style of Chardonnay to drink over the next several years. These wines have shown consistently well in my tastings. Moreover, they represent excellent value for high quality."

Small-production gem of a Cabernet from Robert Foley
Located next to the Hourglass Blueline property and across the street from the famous Three Palms Vineyard, Switchback Ridge Vineyards has been farming their pristine land for decades and Bob Foley has been the man behind the incredible wine since the first vintage in 1999. The rich, rocky soils of this beautiful vineyard property consistently produce low yields of intensely flavored fruit, resulting in extremely concentrated, fruit driven wines that are the hallmark of Switchback Ridge.
95 Points Brix26: "The Switchback Ridge 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with Bing cherry-like fruit aromatics introduce a harmony of black fruit aromas, thoroughly ripe without a trace of over-ripeness. Initial flood of fruit on the palate gives way to gently gripping tannins that coat the palate, with lingering berry, chocolate and coffee bean suggestions.”
Robert Parker writes: "This tiny producer consistently fashions excellent wines (Bob Foley is the winemaking force behind these efforts)."

New release of Tablas Creek's highest-scoring red rhone from Paso Robles. Limited.
94 Points James Suckling: "A delightful nose of crushed rose petals, red cherries and rosemary. Full-bodied with fine, well-integrated tannins and dense fruit character. Layered and balanced with a steely, mineral-like backbone. Dried herbs and cocoa come through. Great length. Drink now or hold."
93 Points Wine Enthusiast "Editor's Choice": "Proprietor Jason Haas is amplifying the freshness on his family's estate wines, as evidenced in this blend of 39% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 21% Syrah and 10% Counoise. Snappy and vibrant aromas of raspberry and fennel pollen lead into a bright palate of lavender, smashed red fruits and delicate chaparral herbs."
...This Paso Robles outpost is owned by two Francophiles, Frenchman Francois Perrin (owners of the Rhone Valley's Chateau Beaucastel) and Robert Haas. Seeking out steep limestone ridges near the Pacific Ocean, Tablas Creek was a work in progress for its first four to five years, but it has come on like gang-busters in the 21st century. The wines are striking."

94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 All Blocks Red Wine is based largely on Grenache but includes 14% Syrah and 1% Mourvèdre, with the Syrah and Mourvèdre mostly from the Tensley Estate Vineyard in Los Olivos and the Grenache from Colson Canyon. Lots of red and black fruits, iron, herbes de Provence, and savory notes emerge on the nose. and it’s a more structured, full-bodied wine that brings the muscle....

A blockbuster new Syrah from Joe Tensley, one of the Santa Barbara region's leading Syrah producers. Try this gem before it's gone.
96 Points Vinous: "The 2021 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is one of the highlights among the 2021s I tasted from Joey Tensley. Vibrant and driving in feel, the Colson Syrah is endowed with tremendous character. Blue/purplish fruit, gravel, incense, menthol and lavender all take shape as the 2021 shows off its striking beauty. There is so much to look forward to."
95+ Points Jeb Dunnuck: "From a site located in the hills above Los Olivos, the 2021 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard gives up a dense purple hue as well as notes of jammy blueberries, black cherry liqueur, candied violets, and black pepper. This is a concentrated, medium to full-bodied, powerful Syrah that has terrific tannins as well as good acidity.
...This was another brilliant lineup of wines from Joey Tensley. The 2021s clearly come from a cooler year and show more medium-bodied, fresher styles. Nevertheless, these are still classic Tensley wines that bring plenty of texture and opulence. If you take prices into account, dollar for dollar, these are some of the greatest wines out there."
Winery Notes: As many of our customers know, this year a long-held dream came true for us when we bought Colson Canyon Vineyard. Colson has been part of the Tensley line-up since 2000 and has been a real star for us, making Food and Wine’s Top Ten Syrah’s in America as well as twice making The Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list. This rugged vineyard always delivers some of darkest, most extracted wines we produce. After three years of drought, the 2015 vintage gave us that big extraction and then some. Look for notes of black plums and blackberries as well as vanilla, black and white pepper and smoked meats. This Colson is drinking well now but will continue to age nicely over the next 10 to 12 years.

A blockbuster new Syrah from Joe Tensley, one of the Santa Barbara region's leading Syrah producers. Try this gem before it's gone.
94 Point Robert Parker: "Medium ruby-purple, the Tensley Syrah Santa Barbara County has pretty aromas of apricot and wild berry preserves with nuances of dried earth, wildflowers and dark spices. The palate is bright, fresh and lifted with an appealing blend of fruit, floral and savory character, and it finishes long and layered."
93 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted out of bottle, the Tensley Syrah Santa Barbara County is another terrific wine that could be 2-3 times the price. Elegant, complex notes of red plums, blackberries, toasted spiced, peppered meats, and flowery incense all give way to a medium to full-bodied Syrah that has silky tannins, no hard edges, and just a balanced, layered style that’s impossible to resist. It’s beautifully done, as well as a smoking value. It will evolve for 8-10 years...
...some of the finest wines he’s made. They have the classic, opulent style he’s known for paired with more freshness, purity, and acidity. His wines age beautifully, but my money is on his 2018s evolving even longer. These wines will put on weight over the course of their élevage, and this is certainly another brilliant vintage. If you take prices into account, dollar for dollar, these are some of the greatest wines out there."

New release of Sassicaia, the greatest Super-Tuscan from Italy. Limited.
Sassicaia is the most iconic wine made in Italy today. It is the most collected Italian wine in the world and arguably could be the most famous wine in your cellar. This is the wine that all other Super Tuscans are based on and compared to and that made Bolgheri, on the coast of Tuscany, one of the most famous wine regions in the world today. Sassicaia 2011, a blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, comes from the region's best vintage in years. Perhaps Italy's greatest wine, order the classic new vintage while we have it available.
100 Points Decanter: "Sassicaia 2019 spent 25 months in oak (one-third new). ‘We are going longer in oak in the past few years,’ said Carlo Paoli, managing director of Tenuta San Guido. Quite pale in the glass, the nose is extremely graceful and intense with a lavender note enhanced by restrained bramble fruits, fermented citrus peel, an intense violet aroma and graphite minerality in depth. The attack is soft and full, the flavor savoury and cedary through to the finish, with integrated velvety tannins and lifted acidity. A perfectly woven structure is bound with signature freshness and fruit vibrancy, making this one for the long haul. "
99 Points James Suckling: "The purity of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is exceptional here, with character and sensibility that’s reminiscent of some of the great Sassicaias from the 1980s, such as 1982 or 1988. But this is much more precise and clean. Aromas and flavors of currants and berries with cedar and earth. Sage and minty character, too. It’s full-bodied yet there’s so much polish and balance, together with structure, elegance, and refinement. Hard not to drink at this stage, yet give it time and respect. This will be a classic Sass and reminds me why I love this wine."
99 points Wine Enthusiast: "Enticing aromas of blue flower, cassis, camphor and spice are front and center in this stunning red. The lithe, savory palate features black currant, red plum and star anise while tobacco notes linger on the long finish. Elegant, polished tannins and bright acidity keep it beautifully balanced and focused."
98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The latest release from Tenuta San Guido is the 2019 Bolgheri Sassicaia. The bouquet is up front and very expressive from the get-go. It offers a generous display of crunchy, dark cherry that hints at the extra concentration and fruit weight obtained in the 2019 growing season. This vintage will be remembered for the crisp richness of the fruit and its important textural imprint. It also shows fine elegance, bordering on the ethereal, with berry aromas, tarry earth and brushes of balsam herb or grilled rosemary. Sassicaia always shows an almost-glossy finely knit quality to the polished mouthfeel, and I find it again here next to fresh acidity and firm tannins. Mouthfeel in 2019 is the wine's strongest suit. The 2019 is one of the prettiest and most balanced editions of Sassicaia we've seen this past decade, along with the back-to-back duo of 2016 and 2015. The 2019 marries the precision of the 2016 with the rich fruit weight of the 2015."
98 points Wine Spectator: "Supple and beautifully defined, with black cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit augmented by tobacco, iron and thyme. Firmly structured, tightening up as this lingers with an aftertaste of dark fruit, graphite and spice. Shows a sense of elegance as well as power and intensity."

New release of Sassicaia's second wine, Guidalberto, a phenomenal buy from Italy. Limited.
From Tenuta San Guido, makers of the iconic Sassicaia, comes a wine made for less serious occasions, but maintains the high class of winemaking. Aged in a mix of French and American oak for 15 months. This is the wine to enjoy while its big brother, Sassicaia, spends another few years in time-out. Straight from the barrel, Vinous was already calling it “positively stellar” and Wine Enthusiast has since marked it as “racy and delicious.” 60% Cabernet Sauvignon with 40% Merlot, this delicate blend is driven by freshness and pops with intense red fruit flavor and ripe, silky tannins.
95 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This enticing red offers alluring aromas of fragrant purple flowers, dark-skinned berries and crushed mint. The elegantly structured palate doles out succulent blackberry, orange zest, licorice and saline notes set against taut, refined tannins. It's nicely balanced by fresh acidity. Drink 2022–2029."

A fantastic value Super Tuscan red from Italy!
93 points Robert Parker: "A blend of 70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, the Arillo in Terrabianca 2019 Campaccio shows elegant restraint with hints of cinnamon and sweet oak that frame a core of dark fruit. If you remember the old Campaccio, you will recognize the wine's black label and the fonts used in the design. Stylistically speaking, however, this wine has evolved over the years to show a much more tapered and graceful approach today. Pretty mineral notes create a final signature."
92 Points James Suckling: "Aromas of sour cherries, orange peel and some flowers follow through to a medium to full body with creamy, velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Give this three or four years to soften. Best after 2024."
91 Points jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Campaccio Collezione is ripe and concentrated with aromas of baked cherry, balsamic, cedar, and licorice. It is medium to full-bodied, with ripe, angular tannins and earthy notes of forest floor, tea leaf, and cherry pit. There is a meaty richness to this wine that can stand up to heartier cuts of beef and game."

92 Points Robert Parker: "The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, notes of stewed plums, warm cassis and cedar leap from the glass with underlying wafts of clove oil and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied with ripe, approachable tannins and a great core of crunchy fruit, it finishes with a peppery lift."
92 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The deeply hued Tether Cabernet Sauvignon from winemaker Anna Monticelli is a beauty and in the running for the value of the vintage. Lots of cassis, flowers, and tobacco notes emerge from the glass, and it’s balanced and medium to full-bodied, with integrated acidity and great finish. The real deal, it has the structure to evolve for at least 10-12 years. This is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec, aged 18 months in 50% new French oak."

Textbook is a small-produciton Cabernet discovery from the heart of Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District, sourced from a vineyard next to Dominus! Beautiful Cab for a reasonable price - try it while its still available. A fantastic value.
The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from two single vineyard sites located within the Oak Knoll and Yountville AVA's. These ideal environments yield Cabernet Sauvignon with more structure and less flash than their warmer region brethren, and with a decidedly Bordelaise sensibility, witness some neighboring wines from Dominus and Grgich Cellars. In addition to the Cabernet, a touch of Cabernet Franc adds great acid structure while the Merlot and Petit Verdot contributed to aromatics leading to a classic "Bordeaux" flavor profile. We believe it is a "textbook" example of this noble variety grown in these outstanding appellations and that it can be enjoyed for several years to come.

Textbook's "Page-Turner" Proprietary Red is a small-production discovery from the heart of Napa Valley's Oakville District, sourced from a vineyard next to Screaming Eagle. Try this small-production gem while it's still available.
The Oakville District is the heart of Napa Valley and renown for its very finest Cabernet Sauvignon. And for good reason. Its gravelly soils, warm days and cool nights give this Bordeaux variety everything it needs to reach perfection. The Textbook "Page-Turner" Proprietary Red is a Merlot-based wine much like some of Bordeaux' top cuvees, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blended in. Textbook's 25+ year experience has shown again and again that a blended wine is almost always a superior wine; witness Grande Marque French Champagne, Vintage Port, First-Growths, Petrus, Penfolds Grange. With this in mind, they created "Page-Turner", and believe it is so good you simply can't put it down - just like a great book.
The name "Page-Turner" came from the Pey's 13 year-old daughter who loves to read. "Page-Turner" is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, each contributing unique elements. Each year the exact percentages will change. The Cabernets in the blend come from the same source as TEXTBOOK "Mise en Place" situated next door to Screaming Eagle on Oakville's east-side.

...I managed to squeeze in a couple of vineyard visits during my afternoon visit with the Torbreck team of Ian Hongell (winemaker) and Nigel Blieschke (viticulturist). At the Hillside Vineyard in Lyndoch, the core is an 1850 planting of Shiraz, but there are additional blocks amounting to 100 acres of the 300-acre property. The Hillside Grenache comes from a parcel planted in 1948. The dry-grown Laird Vineyard is the other Torbreck jewel. Originally planted in 1958 and purchased by Torbreck in 2013, this five-acre site in Marananga provides fruit for Torbreck's top bottling. Contrary to some claims, Hongell offered this simple retort as we looked over the year's young shoots, "It's not dead." Looking at the current lineup, there are a couple of gaps: in 2016, neither the Les Amis nor the Pict were bottled because they were smoke-tainted, according to Hongell. The 2017 was a cooler year, offering more perfume and spice, said Hongell. "We're very pleased with the power we've been able to build into these wines. We're absolutely in love with what we're doing, especially in the vineyards," he concluded."

A fantastic discovery from California's hottest regions, Paso Robles. Treana is the perfect example of what this exciting region excels at: killer Cabernet/Syrah blends. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
The goal of Treana Red is to deliver, vintage after vintage, the best Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine in Paso Robles. Blended with Syrah for a complete, mouth-filling experience, our Treana Red is crafted to keep company with any wine from any region at any price point on the world stage. The result is a wine somewhere between Napa and Bordeaux, a full-throated, luxurious wine but one with finesse as well. “We walk the fine line all California winemakers walk,” says winemaker Austin Hope, “aiming for wine that’s not over the top, not all lushness, but with some grace and elegance. The proof is in the bottle. To cite just one evaluation, the care and vision that go into Treana Red are the reason that Decanter magazine recently named the Treana Red one of the three best Regional Blends in the US—keeping good company indeed.

Varner is a great boutique Chardonnay producer in California's Santa Cruz Mountains.
91 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of flinty minerality, crushed citrus, lime, and white flower notes emerge from the 2017 Chardonnay, which is racy and vibrant on the palate, with good acidity and a great finish. With a Burgundian styled sense of reduction and minerality, a tight, chiseled texture, ad a great finish, it's a beautiful wine."
...Brothers Jim and Bob Varner describe 2010 as a cold year with two heat spikes that were shorter and less dramatic than in other parts of California. It was a long growing season, and the fruit came in 2-3 weeks later than normal. As always, the Varner and Neely wines were fermented in barrel, with native yeasts, natural fermentation and minimal handling. These broad-shouldered Chardonnays and deep, resonant Pinots remain some of the most compelling wines being made in California."

Incredibly complex, it takes lots of air to show at its best and is medium to full-bodied, has a bright spine of acidity, fabulous tannins, and a great, great finish. The elegance of this wine paired with its richness and depth is something to behold. It’s another damn near perfect wine from this estate, and to see this quality from a challenging vintage like 2017 boggles the mind. Hats off to the father-daughter team of Pierre and Hélène Seillan."
98 Points Robert Parker: "What was the secret to achieving such impressive ripeness for Cabernet Franc in 2017? Pierre Seillan's daughter and one day successor, Helene, told me: “We make a lot of passes through the Cabernet Franc blocks—more than the other varieties. We drop any fruit that is not ripening at the same pace. We don’t pull out too much leaves, we need those for the ripening.” Blended of 80% Cabernet Franc, 17% Merlot and 3% Malbec, the 2017 Le Désir has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It comes galloping out of the glass with all the grace and precision of a thoroughbred, sporting notions of kirsch, potpourri, warm plums and wild blueberries plus hints of chocolate box, cardamom and star anise. The medium-bodied palate (just 13.9% alcohol) is at once powerful and wonderfully elegant, with firm, very fine-grained, exquisitely ripe tannins and bold freshness supporting the red and blue fruit layers, finishing with incredible length and depth. Wow!"
Robert Parker: ...I suppose the arguments against giving perfect scores far outnumber those for giving them, but after 37 years of tasting just about everything of quality that’s been produced, I believe I’m in a position to recognize truly world-class efforts that are as complete and compelling as good wine can be. And if that’s the case, then why hold back? I realize that it creates possibly unreal expectations among readers, and there is the argument that nothing really is perfect. But if a wine is as good as you think it can be made, then I have no reservations about offering accolades to those rare wines. When one considers the winemaking effort that goes into producing these cuvées of Vérité, from Bordelais Pierre Seillan, the fastidious attention to detail and the use of only the crème de la crème of fruit from some of the finest vineyards in the Jackson family empire, the results are not that surprising. All of these wines, basically, are aged in 100% new French oak, given 3-4 day cold pre-fermentation, cold macerations, treated like spoiled children during élevage, and bottled with no fining or filtration. The entire philosophy is that La Muse is the Right Bank Pomerol look-alike from Vérité, La Joie the Medoc-like clone, and Le Desir a St.-Emilion in the style of Ausone...These are legendary wines of great extract, richness and potential of longevity and complexity. No compromises are made and the credit goes certainly to the Jackson family for supporting the efforts of winemaker Pierre Seillan."
Vérité produces wines without compromise, wines that reflect the terroir in which they are grown. The name Vérité comes from the French word for truth. 100 points Parker - limited
In an historic moment, wine critic Robert Parker, Jr., of The Wine Advocate recently announced twelve 100-point scores for Vérité’s three blends, Le Désir, La Joie and La Muse. This is the first time a Sonoma County winery has received this many perfect scores. Limited.
100 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasting like a great bottle of Château Lafite, the 2017 La Joie is based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon and brought up, I suspect, in mostly new French oak. Deep ruby/purple, with a heavenly bouquet of crème de cassis, lead pencil, cedarwood, graphite, and tobacco, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, an incredible sense of elegance and purity, building tannins, and a great, great finish. This majestic, regal Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is going to require a decade of cellaring to hit maturity (although it’s far from unapproachable today) and will see its 50th birthday in fine form. I followed this bottle for three days and it never showed a hint of oxidation. This is easily my wine of the vintage in 2017."
98+ Robert Parker: “The Cab Franc was quite spectacular in 2017. There is a bit more in the blend this year,” Pierre Seillan told me during the tasting of the 2017s with his daughter and one day successor, Helene. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2017 La Joie has a very deep garnet-purple color. It opens a little closed and broody, giving glimpses of blackcurrant cordial, espresso, charcoal and black truffles to begin, before blossoming out to a whole array of preserved black and blue fruits, dusty soil, crushed rocks and iron ore scents plus a waft of roses. The medium to full-bodied palate is built like a brick house, with firm, grainy tannins and a lively backbone supporting the muscular fruit, finishing very long and mineral laced. The alcohol weighed in at just 13.9% this year (14% on the label), making for a particularly elegant but no less impactful La Joie!

In an historic moment, wine critic Robert Parker, Jr., of The Wine Advocate recently announced 98-99 point scores for Vérité’s three blends, Le Désir, La Joie and La Muse. Limited.
99 Points Robert Parker: " The 2019 La Muse is a blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc and 5% Malbec. Deep ruby-purple, it explodes with cassis, violets and aniseed, with wafts of thyme, tobacco and iron, offering new nuances with each return to the glass. The full-bodied palate is powerful and refined, with loads of rounded tannins, focused freshness and ethereal character. It's exceptionally expressive and structured and should be very long lived in the cellar. (99 JS - 98 JD)

100 Points - top Bordeaux
A rare 98-point Bordeaux from the heralded 2017 vintage. Extremely limited.
98 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Possibly the wine of the vintage, the 2017 Vieux Chateau Certan is a blend of 81% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from the highest point on the Pomerol plateau. Deep purple, with a heavenly bouquet of creme de cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, crushed violets, tobacco, and earth, this beauty is full-bodied, has incredible depth of fruit, ripe, present tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. This estate has been on fire of late, and this is undoubtedly a worthy follow-on to the otherworldly 2015 and 2016. It has the depth of fruit and texture to offer pleasure even today, yet a solid 7-8 years of cellaring are warranted, and it should be long-lived. Bravo!”

Villa Creek Cellars grew from the intent by Cris and JoAnn Cherry to make a house wine for their restaurant of the same name. Now they produce some of the most highly regarded, and rated, wines in Paso Robles. Avenger is the red blend that launched Villa Creek Cellars in 2001. Syrah from G2 Vineyard is the backbone of this wine. G2 is a stone’s throw from James Berry Vineyard in the Willow Creek district of the west hills of Paso Robles.
95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Inky violet. Highly perfumed, mineral-accented black/blue fruit liqueur, incense and potpourri scents take on exotic spice and licorice notes with aeration. Deeply concentrated but energetic as well, offering sappy blueberry, cassis, candied violet and fruitcake flavors that are sharpened by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. The spicy note drives an impressively long, energetic finish, and chewy tannins provide shape and firming grip."

96 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented black/blue fruit and floral oil aromas pick up exotic spice and pipe tobacco nuances with air. Fleshy, juicy and impressively concentrated, offering ripe boysenberry, black raspberry, cherry liqueur and violet pastille flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Densely packed yet energetic as well, finishing with resonating florality, gently gripping tannins and superb persistence."
