Bodegas Botani's Botani is made from 100% Moscatel de Alejandria sourced from old vines. It is an outstanding value for drinking over the next 1-2 years.
91 Points Robert Parker: "This is probably the only totally dry 100% Muscat de Alexandria made in Malaga, where this grape is used for sweet wine production. To give you an idea how much I love this wine, for the wedding of my goddaughter, held near Pittsburgh last summer, I purchased five cases of the 2010 for her reception. Moreover, I bought an additional three cases of the newly released 2011 (reviewed here) for consumption in my home over the summer and early fall. This is a wine made by the family bodega of Jorge and his sister Victoria Ordonez. Producing 5,000 cases from the decomposed slate and quartz soils of Malaga, their harvest remarkably begins in July to capture the fresh, incredibly perfumed fruit of this varietal. It is then fermented totally in stainless steel, making it one of the most perfumed, naked expressions of dry white wine in the world. This is a killer example that people just love. Let me see if I can properly describe it. The exotic aromatics could fill a small room, with notes of flowers, honeyed white citrus, melons and hints of more exotic tropical fruit such as mango and tangerine. Jorge Ordonez and his sister Victoria, as well as their consulting winemaker, Gerhart Kracher (son of the late, great Alois Kracher) are trying to bring back the reputation of Malaga with wines such as this. The history of the wines of Malaga can be traced to 600 B.C. and the Greek era, and more recently, this area’s wines were celebrated by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand in the 1500s, but then they largely fell out of favor until a number of innovative producers such as the Ordonez family, in alliance with the Krachers of Austria, began to resurrect the sweet wines as well as this incredibly perfumed, dry white, the only one to exist from this region."
91 points Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar: Greenish straw. Intense aromas of orange zest, pineapple, peach and honey on the nose, complicated by notes of shiso leaf and white flowers. Broad, dry and sharply focused, with very good intensity to its flavors of candied citrus and pit fruits, honey and melon. Very smooth on the finish, which leaves notes of sweet citrus fruits and flowers behind. This wine would be superb with any number of Asian dishes.”
Rare white viognier from cult Napa producer Araujo. Limited.
Viognier was planted for blending with our Sauvignon Blanc, and is also used to co-ferment with our Syrah. An unreliable bearer, Viognier in some years provides us with enough crop to bottle on its own, producing a profoundly aromatic and seductive wine redolent of honey, apricots, orange blossoms and spice.

previous vintage 91 Points Robert Parker: "Clearly one of the greatest roses I have tasted over the last few years, Bedrock’s Ode to Lulu ranks alongside some of the fabulous dry roses made by Domaine de la Mordoree in Chateauneuf du Pape. With this offering, Bedrock’s owner/winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson has paid homage to Lulu Peyraud of Domaine Tempier, an estate that fashions great Bandol roses. This blend of 50% old vine Mourvedre, 30% old vine Carignan and 20% Grenache from vines planted between 1888 and 1922 is a killer rose. Whole cluster pressed and aged in stainless steel with no malolactic, 600 cases of this full-bodied, strikingly Provencal-styled rose were produced. It possesses a light pink color, crisp acids, medium to full-bodied flavors, and tremendous intensity as well as character. Superb winemaking, great vineyard sources and old Mediterranean grape varieties planted in California are the keys to producing this sensational rose. Don’t miss it! It should drink well for several years."
Winemaker Morgan Twain Peterson: "In our quest to continually one-up the previous vintage of this wine we stumbled headlong into the rugged terrain of Mendocino. Don't get me wrong, I really like the 2012, where I feel we finally captured a trace of ethereal lightness and perfume while maintaining the sturdy stock of Mourvedre at the wines base. However, I wonder if perhaps the 2012 was just a trace too delicate. We used more Carignane from the sandy, soft soils of Contra Costa County for that wine so my theory was that we needed to find soils with a bit more edge in them. Though the base of 2013 wine is composed around the ancient plantings of Mourvedre at Bedrock Vineyard and Pagani Ranch, the rest of the blend is composed of dry-farmed Grenache planted in the 1880's at Gibson Ranch in McDowell Valley and Carignane from the 1950's planted on soils that remind me of Pauillac in Ukiah. As always, all the lots were picked early and all except the Grenache Gris were whole-cluster pressed. This, I think, though I am sure I will continue to refine, is the best Ode to Lulu to date. Fresh, perfumed, lifted, bright, clean, dense, and delicious. 12.6%."
