2012 was an excellent year for Champagne, although not without curveballs around harvest! Quality is excellent, and the 2012 Pierre Morlet is no exception! Showing notes like ripe citrus, earthy red berry fruit, with a classic toasty-yeasty mid-palate. A very long finish that hints at exotic spice. Exceptional, rich, satisfying, and fascinating. The 2012 has a sligly higher Chardonnay component than the regular NV Brut Reserve. Varietals: 74% Pinot Noir, 26% Chardonnay
The Morlet family has been cultivating vineyards in Avenay-Val-d'Or since the early 1800's and, after four generations, Champagne Pierre Morlet et Fils has become synonymous in France for authentic and handcrafted Champagnes. Interestingly, Pierre Morlet's grandson Nicolas is currently a consulting winemaker at Napa Valley's cultish Peter Michael Winery.
