This is the kind of small-production Napa Cabernet we love discovering before anyone else does. Wings is a newcomer the Cabernet scene and its delicious, so get in early while its still available. Only 500 cases produced.
Three Stars (***) San Francisco Chronicle: "A new, and slightly mysterious entry to the field. Sourced from cooler vineyards in southwest Napa, with 14 percent Cabernet Franc, plus some Merlot and Petit Verdot, it offers a classic approach -- currant and black fruit amid toasty oak and anise. A bit of char and solid tannins to finish. Limited availability."
Wings Cabernet is produced from great hillside vineyards mostly on Napa Valley's Mount Veeder, from a well-kown winemaker formerly making wine at Peter Michael. Their debut vintage is a wine of structure and finesse backed by opulent cassis and dark fruit flavors. Its suppleness lends to it drinking now. but it will age gracefully over the upcoming decade. Very smooth with a hint of mountain fruit with a nice, long finish. Highly recommended.
