Michel Rolland, possibly the most influentual winemaker in the field, takes Merlot to new heights rarely seen in the US with Pedestal. Choosing from the best grapes grown in Washinton State, he crafts a multi-dimensional, multi-layered, ageable wine reminsicent of Pomerol (where he lives) but containing characteristics unique to the Pacific Northwest. A highly collectible wine. 77% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Very Limited.
94 points Connoisseur Guide: "This scores a point lower than last year's brilliant introductory effort, but worry not about quibbles, but instead focus first on the incredible depth and richness on display here, and then marvel at the way in which polish and tannic grip exist side by side. The emergence of cocoa powder ripeness and slighly elevated heat at the finish will be of little significance when the wine is partnered with long-cooked meats like Boeuf en Daube."
93 Points Wine Spectator: "Dense and focused, yet balances deftly enough to let the currant, cherry and black raspberry fruit pierce through a veil of crisp tannins. Has power without excessive weight. The finish lingers extraordinarily well. Best from 2009 through 2014. 1,624 cases made."
