A fantastic small-production Napa Valley Cabernet. One of our top picks from the stellar 2005 vintage.
93 Points Robert Parker: "The 2005 is the real deal. Super-ripe but with impressive underlying acidity and structure, the wine has notes of charcoal, roasted herbs, tapenade, black currant, licorice, and camphor. It is deep, full-bodied, rich, with good acidity and sweet tannin. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. This source for Cabernet Sauvignon was made famous by well-known wine consultant and winemaker David Ramey when he was sourcing fruit from this site. They now estate-bottle their own wines, and this is a cuvee of around 400 cases made from 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc."
93 Points Wine Spectator: "Tighly wound, but rich and concentrated, with a focused mix of dried currant, wild berry, herb, spice and cedar. The flavors fan out and gain depth, ending with a nice firm, tannic finish. Best from 2009 through 2015."
The Jericho Canyon Vineyard 2005 Proprietary Red two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third Merlot, and a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc), comes from a vineyard northeast of Calistoga owned by Jericho Canyon Vineyards and the wine is made by famed winemaker David Ramey.
