Etude 2005 Merlot is 100% varietal and all the grapes were grown on the Etude Estate Vineyards. The vineyard soils are variations of volcanic origin. They are well-drained, rocky upland soils. Combining these soils with the extreme western location closer to the Pacific Ocean allows them to produce a decidedly distinct Merlot.  Bright, heady aromas of blackberry, black plum and olive lead to a core of rich, concentrated fruit. The structured, yet supple, tannins wrap around the lush red fruit and mingle with notes of white pepper. The wine’s finish leaves a long, lasting impression of fruit richness backed by hints of smoky spice. This wine, while extremely accessible in its youth, possesses excellent potential for aging.
